My alcalinity too high. I’ve fighting for months to lower the alcalinity, water chances, not adding anything to the tank. And nothing work, I have soft Coral (not much) few fishes and that it. The tank has 5 years old but last year I started to try the corals grow( no success). Can some body provide me a simple way to low the alcalinity?

You may need to look at the salt your using to mix fresh saltwater, if it’s something like Red Sea coral pro it does mix to a higher level.

What do you mean high ?

Thanks for the answers, I am using foundation pro multi test kit from Red Sea. My alcalinity is 12.3 dkh. I get my water through a store where they said that that water alcalinity is between 8.5 and 9 dkh. Adding bacteria and iodine one time per week. And feeding the fishes one time daily, feeding the corals one time weekly with reef-roids. Please find pictures attached about the products...

Welcome to r2r!

12 is kinda high. Do you dose? If not the only possibilities are that you have a bad test kit or the salt water you are buying is very high. Maybe they got a bad batch of salt mix? do you know what brand they are using, some have higher levels than others.

Welcome to R2R! You may want to have that fish store confirm your tests of 12. Additionally, you may want to get a third party to confirm the alkalinity of your water and the water from your primary LFS.

You think that is better to start to make my own water?

IMO in most cases it is best to make your own RODI and salt water. In addition to limiting the effort of hauling buckets from the LFS, you can also choose what salt to use that better fits your desired parameters (BRS has a good video series on YouTube about the different brands of salt). Although an RODI unit is an expense, the long term cost is notably less than continually buying water.
