How old is your tank.
Let's see. I let it sit for 4 weeks with biospira and a table shrimp. Then I turned on the lights and started testing.

I bought my rock and filled the tank on 7/7.

2 months

Please read through the first page I sent you. It'll give you a lot more info than I can. They saved my tank.

That explains it. I was tired of scraping the green algae off my glass so I put Phosphate pads in my filter and then the brown strings showed up. Maybe I should dose some phosphate

Becareful the rock will absorb a lot of the phosphates. That's what happened in my system. The other thang you'll need is biodiversity. I suggest adding some lr if possible.

What is LR?

Yes but it also lacks the biodiversity that comes with live rock.

There's is pros and cons to dry vs live. No nasty hitchhiking with dry but lacks biodiversity. Live can come with both bad and good hitchhikers and has tons of great biodiversity. I personally live biodiversity it's good for the reef. I did end up with a gorilla crab too. But def worth it .
