I’ve found this algae today and I’d like to know the genus, it is very similar to a halimeda in therms of structure/segments, this algae doesn’t have the calcified structure as halimeda, in the picture there is white parts that went asexual due to be found in a system with poor lighting they are of a soft and mouldable consistency and in some parts of the picture it can be observed that there is some degradation/decomposition of the white segments that can’t be observed in halimeda as the calcified structure stays once the algae perish.

it seems that the some segments are translucent instead of the expected white calcified structure and it’s moving with a small gentle flow in the system

@AlgaeBarn have you encountered this specie before?

Reminds me of the Halimeda discoidea I had for a short period, which has a surprisingly fleshy, leathery composition compared to the Halimeda opuntia I still own. I don't recall it ever going transparent, though (it simply disintegrated over time). Even the algae in question is not H. discoidea, I don't think there are any green macroalgae that share Halimeda's distinctive segmented thallus.

I must agree with you, and am baffled with this one, I never encountered a species of halimeda that is so mouldable like in the last video posted. I will try and pull out the microscope and look at the composition on a larger magnitude

the microscope of the thallus seems to be a dead end most species seem to have hexagonal and this one is almost circle shaped.

Can’t find more info on this, will let it grow and see if it calcifies, if not may send a fragment to a near university
