Algae on my frag plugs

Peroxide. I pull them out with some tank water and just squirt some in until I think its good. I don't really measure. I dip for just a few mins and its all gone. Usually the zoas are much happier after since they are not irritated by the algae. I have only done this with zoas and acans myself though. Def not SPS!

Plenty of great advice here. Buy algea eating snails for sure. Also, sometimes you just have to do the extra work. A Tooth brush on all the frag plugs will knock it back the fastest.

You can dip zoas in saltwater and peroxide all day long. They'll be ticked off at first then open great later. I just do the same thing Wil does. Pour in a little peroxide until I see the algae bubbling then take a toothbrush to the algae. Alternatively, you can just use a toothbrush.

I would go with peroxide too. If it is just the plug you can put some straight from the bottle on the plug itself. This is what I do when I put new frags in my tank. First a bayer dip, then rinse, then peroxide for the algae.

Sure thing @Mike628 . The zoas will be ticked off for a while, depending on species, how long they are dipped for, amount of H2O2 used, origin of the zoas, maricultured or aquacultured, etc, but they will be fine. I've taken them out of the peroxide water, squirted directly with peroxide and brushed clean with a toothbrush (for frags that had algae growing between the polyps), with no ill effect at all. Zoas opened again in an hour. Have done this multiple times with the same frag and they are all alive and doing great, multiplying and spreading on the rock...
