Algae scrubber

Gotcha, not sure what the water params are at the moment, I need to take it in and get a work up on it, I can't read those chem strips for nothing. I haven't been too concerned with params yet until I got the algae scrubber going and once that looks like its doing well ill venture into brining more livestock in the tank, but right now all I have are some snails, cerith and narcicus snails and lots of babies from one(too small to make out which it is) red legged hermits, some pulsing Xenia, green star polyp, and a button polyp with a sprout, and the only seeming casualty(?) was a partial chalice but its issue isn't the water it was nice and happy and would stick its feeders out when I turned out the light and seeming to be doing good until I came home from work one day to find it had been flipped and when I flipped it over it was covered with sand that would come off even under light water movement. Since then the flesh under the sand has dissolved but the mouths are still there with flesh around them and I've mounted it to a rock to prevent easy tipping in the sand.

That sucks on the chalice. What kind was it

Not sure really, light purple flesh with green mouths, it's not a complete loss the skeleton was broke in several places when I got it so when the flesh around it died off it came apart in three frags, the two of which still had flesh and mouths I adhered to a rock and seem to be doing ok, will take a while to see if they come back or dissolve the rest of the way.

You ever seen one built to run in the overflow box?

I built one in the overflow box of my 28 nano. it works well but the down side is that you can only shine light on one side of the screen so its probably not as efficient. Works nice for a nano cube or bio cube that doesn't have a sump or is very limited on space.

I have yet to switch to red leds. Right now its using white. I think once I can make the switch it will really kick butt.

Nice. But I dont like the idea of the up flow on a salt water tank. Salt creep will be all over

Honestly the salt creep is not that bad "if" the air supply is dialed in so that there is very little spray and splatter from the bubbles. If I wasnt using the little blue valve to dial back the air yes i would have allot of salt creep. As you can see the the top picture there is little to no salt creep along the top rim. You do have a vaild concern though and that is a good point to bring for anyone trying this.
