Alk Test ,, bad number ,,

You got some bad advice.

You don't know how your old RODI is functioning without a TDS meter. You can buy a handheld one in Amazon for about 10 bucks.

A buster pump won't do anything for the product water TDS reading. You need to watch TDS of your product water to know when to replace DI resin.

Pretty sure a booster pump reduces tds by increasing osmotic rejection. For example on my ro unit 40 psi ill get 5tds. 90 psi will give me 1tds.

My salifert alk test says the same.

I didn't explain what I meant very well, apparently.

Lfs claimed that you shouldn't concern yourself with TDS readings because a booster pump messes with the reading. This isn't true, and you need to track TDS reading of product water.

I agree that a booster pump can decrease TDS of RO permeate.

Thanks for clarifying :)

Let me ask this ,, if this number is right ,, which I just can't see it being right ,, but if it is ,, is there anything I can add to the tank that would drop that Alk number ,, I am thinking a 14 number would fry corals ,, it has to be a bad test kit ,, or I am getting that Alk number because of my RO/DI water ,, I have never heard of that though ,,

Corals can grow well at steady high alkalinity as long as adequate nutrients are available.

I didn't have one ,, I have one on the new unit ,,, the LFS guy told me not to read much into what it says though ,, he said the booster pump will mess with that number ,, I want to say he said it makes the TDS bounce around ,, don't hold me to that though ,,
I’d ignore that advice and I would not take further chemistry advice from them. The final tds in the effluent water is not dependent on anything but residual ions in the product water.
