As of late, I've been having a hard time finding decently priced nori, or nori in stock. Can't even find unflavored sushi nori.

I've heard that there's other veggies that can be used as a substitute. Is this true? Anyone ever use other veggies in place of nori? Is it good/nutritionally balanced for fish?

I'm sure you can find a BC based Asian grocer that ships if there are no local Asian grocery stores. I use T&T in Ontario. That being said unless you have a ton of tangs whatever you find boxing day / week from j&l or comparable stores should be affordable.

As for actual alternatives, if you have a refugium you can grow a different macro that they'll actually eat instead of cheato.

I have three tangs that eat chaeto. It's funny to watch them do that. Also, we grow sea lettuce in the refugium and they go nuts for that too. Great alternative! And it's free :)

On line nori is pretty cheap
100 sheets 7 oz for $17.00
Cheap as compared to live pom pom algae

I flip back and forth daily from nori to dried Dulse. My Yellow Tang gobbles it down. I purchase it at the Loblaw brand of stores. It's east coast harvested so not sure if available in BC? Or perhaps there is a west coast species? Anyway fairly inexpensive and highly recommend it...

2 yellows, lt tang, vlamingi, blue hippo, flame and foxface. We go through some Nori lol. So any highly recommended alternatives would be great for us, if for nothing else than switching it up now and then. I try and make sure to mix in algae eaters types of frozen cubes with the standard mysis, etc as well. Things like this...

Yeah, I usually buy the sea veggies, but right now I can't justify paying twice the price on Amazon, or the value of the stuff in shipping. Costs even more to drive down to Vancouver for pickup.

If only my Hippo ate chaeto or bryopsis. Got lots of both.

Romaine yes, but freeze leaf first to separate the cellulose film on the outside which is hard for fish to digest
