Am I evil for not wanting to grow SPS?

Is it wrong of me to not want to grow sps corals? I am now and always have been more drawn to softies, leathers, zoas/palys, shroom,polyps polyps polyps, gorgs, and a few lps.
I love the look of sps but am just not sure they are for me...at least right now. :neutral:
Does that make me a bad reefer? < sarcasm implied>

What is your favorite coral and why?

I didn't like sps when I started I was all about zoas and lps. Over time I came completely obsessed with sps. Now that's all I want. Weird how that happens.

Same here I was only interested in chalices and zoas. No SPS. Now I'm all about SPS, that's all I buy.

Many don't care for sps. For many, growing sps is another challenge. Softies and LPS can be added to a tank successfully with less maintenance than sps. Once you get good at growing softies and LPS the next move up is to attempt sps. Everyone has an sps or two that they would like in their tank and one day you will get the itch to add one. Once it starts to grow it grows on you and is contagious and you want more.

That being said, I like a mixed tank with softies, LPS and SPS. If I had to choose one it would be sps.

I don't like sps either! & i don't think i ever will! ever since I was introduced to reefing I have always been attracted to scolys, zoas, acans, and favias because of their beautiful rainbow colors! after a huge obsession I've had over these corals I started looking at Mikes tank a lot and said wow, clipped a few and put them in my tank and started to realize they aren't my type, they grow way tooooo slow! I still only have a setosa in my tank but lots of montis, don't know if those will count haha! those are beautiful! :thumbup:

I like a mixed reef myself. I like the challenge of SPS. But zoas can be a challenge as well. The many variety of morphs can bring great color to any reef.

I always had my eye on the prize and SPS was the goal. Over the years I was very good at LPS and zoa's and even the tricky stuff did well. Then I went all SPS and my zoa's and chalices arent doing so hot. It's really a whole nother art.

just joking, but there is something about acros, once you start, it becomes an unstoppable obsession!!! I'm gonna go broke buying acros! I need acroholics anonymous- every time I buy one I think "just one more pack, I swear, just one more......."

Nah. I had sps, and quickly got bored with them. I've since gone back to all zoas and palys, and lps. Now I'm happy looking at my tanks again. Everyone has different things that they like. Sps just might not be your "thang", they sure aren't mine

Yeah, not everyone has the same taste. I started with softies/LPS after a while I started adding sps and realized I couldn't keep them happy. A year later I started a new system dedicated to sps. I' think it's the challenge that attracts me the most. You can have a very nice colorful reef tank with any type of corals. But there's nothing like a full blown sps tank. Check out "reefbum" sps tank for example.

Funny this topic shows up.. I was baptized in fire when I first started. My mentor threw me straight into SPS, and for sheer dumb luck, I did very well with them. My heart always favored softies, and eventually I followed that path... and it was harder than SPS! :lol:
Even stranger? I've been using a 40Br for almost nine years! :xd:

I enjoy a mixed reef the best, all corals have something cool to offer!

Honestly you just go for what you like, like most of us do.

I do think that some SPS have interesting shapes that none of the softies or LPS can duplicate. Birdsnests and the Stylophoras come to mind. Personally, I like to see more motion in the tank than SPS provide. The "jiggliness" of many leathers and the waving of the Euphyllias is something I really enjoy. Each to their own.

It seems to be a common trait with reefers that what ever we are good at we later take up the challenge to try and become an expert at what we are not good with, yet.

I did not like sps when I started. After time I began to like them because of the challenge to keep them. First challenge keep them alive, second challenge was get them to grow, third was to get them to color up

I've tried growing SPS but I just don't have good luck with them. I like the way they look but they require alot of attention so I usually stick with LPS.
