Am I rushing things?

This is very conservative advice, but I thank you for it. Bet you have not lost livestock being this careful. I've been doing this for 4 or 5 years and never had troubles like this, but then all material was new. Time to find out about that bleach treatment you refer to, and start over!

Actually, the reason I can share this type of advice is because I have lost a least a few thousand dollars in either equipment or livestock during my 15 years in this hobby. I never leave anything to chance. Whenever I want to rush into something, I think about the night i put a bag of Phosguard in my Bak Pak Skimmer (don't ask) and woke up the next morning to find 3 dead fish and a few fully bleached Staghorns. I had an empty feeling that I can even describe standing in front of my tank and seeing that and I never want to feel that way ever again. It was rough. So the one thing I never do when it comes to my tanks is rush. I look at it like this... nothing in our oceans was created overnight, you know.
