Amphipod eating BTA!!!

oh man, you scared the crud out of me. I saw you popping in and out of different threads last night but never responding to this one, I thought maybe the alert got buried and you missed it. Thank goodness it's a no swim zone as well atm.

wait, that sounds really bad. Um....I think you know what I mean though. Sigh I suck at this whole sympathetic thing.

The alert did get buried... but I would never have moved it if I didn't have the same situation in both tanks. It's still doing well in the nano, but still in the shaded spot. Just took this picture, excuse the distortion I had to hold the phone at an angle to see down to him.

Humble, I'm curious if in a broken down state the dinos care if it's fish or shrimp...etc? I would think fleshy-meaty is fleshy-meaty. I think we KNOW the fish may be a problem, but how are you able to quickly eliminate the shrimp and other grindy bits?

Also FWIW I'm not trying to bust your balloons here, just trying to help AND understand better for myself.

Will have to get back to you on this as I have more time to do research.

I was not suggesting the dinos could live in the frozen food, what I was asking was if he is blending fresh fish and what not, freezing it, then thawing it, then putting it in the tank for the nem, does that now thawed and tank temperature blended fish present a feeding opportunity for the dino?
Interesting thought! In theory the parasite could feed on the food and complete it's life cycle. That would defeat any fallow period. I never considered that thought that ghost feeding could be a problem.

I don't think ghost feeding Pellets or Flakes would cause a problem. I definitely question feeding anything meaty though. Luckily the doctor is on it. He'll let us know soon enough.

Agreed. I dont see pellets or flakes as a problem. Even with meaty foods, i'm wondering if it would be a problem since it is in competition with the biological filtration of the tank. The "meaty" food in theory would be in small particles. If the trophont can feed on these particles would it have enough time to complete it's life cycle before bacteria decomposes the particle. Even if it could move to new "meaty" food daily would it be able to find enough to survive. Bacteria and other life forms would be in constant competition. They parasite doesnt have this competition on a living host. Maybe this wouldnt be very efficient, but it could result in the random fallow period that doesnt work. Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm!

Yeah, I think the relative unknown, or at least what I unknow ( :P ) is how much food does it actually take for it to be able to complete it's life cycle.
