This is one o the lamps I'm using on the newly set up 120-gallon reef.
The Blue Plus has LEDs peaking at 420, 450, and 495 nm. The 420nm produces some UV radiation which can excite some fluorescent pigments and of course is absorbed by chlorophylls. Light at 450nm is also utilized in photosynthesis. Peridinin absorbs the aqua radiation and channels it to chlorophylls.
The Seneye device reports Photosynthetically Usable Radiation at 83%.

I like the spectrum on that light. I noticed that you said that it was one of the lights you are using on the new 120. What other lighting are you currently using?
 
What is your opinion on these vs the reef brite leds?
As I've always tried to state, there are no poor lights (within reason of course), just poor applications. The ReefBrite LED strip I have (a very old one) has a single spectrum (450nm if memory serves) and is meant to supplement a broad spectrum lamp. On the other hand, this Orphek has a much broader spectrum and PPFD is greater.
 
Hey Dana, did you ever do spectrum for the orphek atlantik's? I know you did PAR, but I didn't think there was spectrum, but often my memory fails me...
 
How would you compare this bar to ATI Blue plus ? Understanding that is LED vs T5 but as far as benefits for corals coloration witch one is better ?
 
I have been looking at these but I am questioning the amount of green light in there. What is your take on this as a supplement to a T5 fixture.
You can get them special order with whatever you want in there. Take out the greens and put in blues. It's an awesome fixture, coming from a Reefbrite there is no comparison
 
Thanks Dana I have been looking at these as a supplement to t-5...

I have been debating using these for a SPS tank or the Reef breeders LumenBar high octane UV. The RB specs says it has 380nm leds and Orphek says 410 nm leds.
The RB fixture seems to dip a little more into the UV spectrum where the Blue plus seems to be a lot of purple and a little more wide spectrum. Would be interesting to see how they compare.
 
495 diodes are not green......

does look more like "reality" is a 500nm-ish.. which is also not green... ;)

blue green has value........
 
495s are called cyan, but they sure look green in the tank when on the ends. I can show you a pic, and I would not recommend 495s on the end of a fixture.

Yea I know.. some even "look" greener than green.. ;)
Depends on the peak wavelength..
Putting them on the end.. well that is a spacial issue not wavelength thing..

I thought I had - checked the Excel workbook and I tested each LED individually, but not overall spectrum. I think the newer Atlantiks have a IR LED (~730nm) instead of the 840nm. I'll test it when I get a chance.
