Analyses: Orphek Blue Plus LED Strip Light

This is one o the lamps I'm using on the newly set up 120-gallon reef.
The Blue Plus has LEDs peaking at 420, 450, and 495 nm. The 420nm produces some UV radiation which can excite some fluorescent pigments and of course is absorbed by chlorophylls. Light at 450nm is also utilized in photosynthesis. Peridinin absorbs the aqua radiation and channels it to chlorophylls.
The Seneye device reports Photosynthetically Usable Radiation at 83%.

Hey Dana, did you ever do spectrum for the orphek atlantik's? I know you did PAR, but I didn't think there was spectrum, but often my memory fails me...
Yup! I'll have to further refine this data, and will do so in a separate thread. Color mixing is pretty good as these measurements were taken about 18" from the luminaire, but does change slightly due to sensor positioning. I'll keep you posted - hopefully tomorrow a.m.

Thank you for review and great timing as I am actively seeking two more 48" strips at a good price.

I added 2 48 inch OR2 blue plus, really like the quality but should have left out the green
I emailed them and they are sending me 4 blues to replace the green. I find the green ok in the middle, it’s the 4 on the outside of the bars that don’t blend well. Can’t wait to install these to get the fixture back running.

Would any of you recommend using these as supplements vs a t5 hybrid fixture? I am currently running one Kessil 360x and was thinking of getting one of the two to eliminate shadows.

Awesome to know I can do that!

yes, Highly

I have a V4 and I believe these are similar to ch2 on the Atlantic. The color is great, it is not the deep cobalt blue of some leds, it is more of a windex color but it really makes things pop in the tank. When you mix it with ch3 which is the UV and violet Leds it’s makes everything glow.

Love my Atlantiks! Interesting supplemental bar the OR2, do they have any way to control dimming?

Bars aren't dimmable as delivered.. . you could swap drivers..
Orphek does "imply" dimmable versions are coming.. but ???

Would you folks recommend one or two OR2 Blue Plus strips in the middle of my Aquatic Life T5 Hybrid?

How do you think these would go with the new Radion G5 blue? To compliment the Radions. Kinda like a hybrid?
