Yes, I'd love a feminus but last time I saw one it was 1499.......stern. I like the look of the black backed for sure, but the red tail is really special imo. Seems like these guys are just extra sensitive leopard wrasse basically. Need to be dewormed, require 3-4x feedings per day (I have always used nutramar ova initially). Sensitive to shipping (sounds like more than leopards)
Yeah, I would love a feminus wrasse too, but I would be disappointed in myself if I had to flush it down the toilet because of a rookie mistake. And yes, the care requirements are very similar to leopard wrasses. As a matter of a fact, I keep them both together.
When you say they are not reef safe do you mean all of them or just the yellow chest twist and the yellow tail? Damage rockwork.......really?
Yes, both of those and the black backed wrasse. But again, this varies from person to person. Some are so bad the hobbyist has to give them away, some do good and snap along the road, while others may never touch anything. My black backed wrasse, which is currently in my reef tank not by choice, has damaged the surfaces of my rock work. It makes this snapping sound like pistol shrimps and chips off tiny pieces of rock work. Of course, this isn't noticeable when it just started, but a couple months down the road and the rocks are starting to look funny.
Which retailers do you recommend? Thanks for your help. I'm just getting into the fancier wrasse (fairys and leopards hooked me) and I'm not sure where to get the rarer varieties besides hoping they pop up on divers den. I don't like my lfs and the last time I asked them to order something for me they said they'd tell me if one came in ever.....never did. It was just a helfrichi too, nothing crazy.
I'd keep checking DD on LiveAquaria and sign up for their email notification. Sometimes LFS can be a hit or a miss. I'm really good friends with the LFS staff in my location, so they are able to secure me with fish with some patience. And sorry, I don't have anymore leads other than that. I'm pretty much upset about the Hawaii ban too, because I've always wanted to get a bandit angelfish, but I guess I gotta say goodbye to that dream for now.
Thanks
