Yes business. All the news outlets say it’s banned but if you look up the permit it’s just for fine mesh nets they’re still allowed to collect and sell fish. It’s dishonesty from the media or just lazy reporting in the case of reef builders And others that just copy and paste what others have reported without doing any fact checking, sad really. Our supplier told us prices aren’t even going up yet. Smaller fish will likely go up because of increased difficulty to catch them but I don’t even know if that will happen.

There is NO ban on ornamental fish collecting in Hawaii. The only thing that has happened is the permit for fine mesh nets less than 2” is no longer legal. Collectors can still catch as many fish as they can just using different methods. I just unboxed 10 boxes today from Hawaii. Red tailed tamarins, dwarf golden moray, flame wrasses, flame angels, potters wrasses, yellow tangs and Bartlett’s anthias among others.

For sure. I just don’t want to see people get price gouged. This hobby is expensive enough.

We don’t go through a vendor, we deal directly with the collector so there’s no middleman.

Well the best bet would be zoacollector as @KJoFan mentioned but with Hawaii closing down , not sure if Collin can source them .
Mine came from a wholeseller but could get only one survive in shipping g and the rest arrived DOA including a 4 inch gorgeous male

Good thing is the one small female still with me five weeks into qt and eating well primarily on nutramar ova and cyclopzee .

If anyone is looking for tamarins , I would get the yellows to start with for sure . You never know is when you will receive the reds.

Trick is to feed them a lot with nutramar and cyclopzee and calanus and make them eating good before starting with deworming !

I just hope I can get it through a week or so more and then slowly introduce to my tank .

thanks, yeah I could have gotten it but unfortunately I have two fish coming into qt tomorrow no room. It's a good sign that I've seen several around though, I don't think it will be as hard to get them moving forward, hopefully.
