Everything was nice and white for the last 4 weeks until this morning.

I am going through the same thing on my 2 month old tank. Some hermit might help but I would wait until you see some green algae before adding snails.

Should I change my filter socks more frequently since I got the bloom?

For the last month I've just been changing them once a week.

I dont mean to seem obtuse, but what bloom? All I see is a couple pics of sterile rock without algae to even sustain a single snail longterm. When I start a new system I like to feed enough to see the beginnings of green film and turf algaes within a week or so. Then a few weeks later its time to add clean up crew. By then there is actually a stable algal bed for them to graze on. Keeping a tank sterile is a surefire way to end up with a massive dino outbreak. You have to grow in an ugly algae phase in order to build your microflora and fauna populations IMO. Best of luck!

Looks much cleaner than mine. I am about 3 weeks into cycle and whole top side of my rock structure is Brown.

Was actually reading on another post that it may even be the beginning stages of coraline, since I added two bottles of purple helix, although it looks like diatom to me.

Believe me everyday I stare at that and my nitrite test awaiting the day the cuc can go in lol

Here's better pictures. You can see it better with the naked eye versus pictures

Everyday it will get worse just wait it out once you see some starting to die off you can help it along by turning lights off for a few days if you can't stand wiatung like I did but don't go putting too many cuc member in yet until Dino's die off

I’d hate to show you what my tank looks like. Took 75 gallons 2 weeks to cycle and my pretty white rock is now brown with a few spots of green. My CUC can’t keep up.

Are dinos pretty standard with cycle?

I am going through the same. Mostly looks like diatom but I do see some areas with tiny air bubbles.

Sorry to the OP don't want to hijack your thread but probably good info for you as well

No problem. I'm thinking the same thing help us both I don't have to ask the same question later.

I don’t think dino’s are standard on a new tank, mostly diatoms. The bubbles could be bubble algae. How olds the tank?

Don't think it's bubble algae. Tiny little air bubbles on the Brown algae which I believe is a characteristic of dino?

Not sure about the OP but I am about 3 weeks into cycle

They're not dinos, just diatoms catching gas bubbles from your sandbed. I'm in the same boat right now, it sucks doesn't it. I can't wait to get that nice purple coraline algae.

Glad to hear that. Wasn't sure if it was time for concern yet.

I do have purple specks on parts of my rocks. I think the purple helix actually does work

Guess i’m Lucky. I had a little on the sandbed, but then again i’ve Kept the sand vacuumed. My rocks on the other hand, are extremely ugly with brown and green Hair algae. I have 20 hermits and 15 snails and they can’t keep up. Just put Chaeto in my Sump this week to help. My nitrates are 5 and phosates are .025, a little high there.

Sorry but don't get too happy yet, it could be a startup outbreak of cyano (I'm going through one now) but I hope it's just coraline. If it gets on the sandbed try turning off the lights for a few days before it can take hold (I can't because my tank is setup (with corals from softies to sps, fish, inverts, etc) you can check out the build thread in my signature if you are interested, I do need to update it though

The purple might be coralline.

I'm glad to know, I'll update it then, I've got some cool new pics to show.
