Anemone dying?

When was the last time you fed him I would try a small piece of raw shrimp and try to nurse him back to health I just think it’s starving to death. You’ll have to hold the price until his mouth grabs onto it since he doesn’t have tentacles as of now

I have another anemone that split into 4 and has been so small like the size of an eraser. But have been that size for 6 months. They move and everything. Just stay closed. I'm sure it's related to these in maybe something is off in my tank

Do nitrates bother anemones?

They would have to be really high.

It's possible your lighting may have been much stronger than what it came from, and if you did not acclimate, that may have been why it hid in rock.

I have read on one site, I think it was reefbuilders if I recall properly, that they actually stated over feeding can take so much energy that a nem may even consume it's own tentacles, though this is just what I read, and have nothing to back that and have no idea if that actually is correct or not.

Either way I do know feeding too heavy can cause stress, it's actually a trick some used to induce a split.

Mysis and small filter type foods are best really, and only a couple times a week.

I'm curious what params out of whack were exactly...

What are yours at I’ve read low I’ve read high the consensus is all over the place. What are your readings and what all do you test for.

You should try force feeding him on a daily basis till he starts to improve. Try small foods like pellets

I was using purple up. I think it's called so my calc went up to 540 and mag dropped to 800. My nitrates stay about 80 and can get to 160. Cant seem to get them down.

This is what it looked like when I got him

Is this the actual picture of your anemone when it was healthy and this one in the picture is the one the one dying in the earlier picture?

That's not theactual one in the before pic. I forgot to take one and he stayed behind a rock so I couldn't get one. But he was that exact color and size. The after is him.yesterday. he actually moved lower in the tank and has a strong foot and I think i got a mysis in him today too.

Ok yeah, that's pretty high nitrates, my idea of high but not too problematic is about 40, and 20 or lower would be more like it.

Also your Cal is pretty high, and mag is low, and I would suspect your alk is probably pretty low as well, and that can make it difficult to raise mag.

How old is this tank?

Also, avoid purple up, not needed and can shift params, don't rush, coraline will come.

You should post pics of actual nem.

The white flat one is the actual one I stopped the purple up and have got my parameters in order just mag slightly low dosing now. And nitrates are still 80.
