My tank is a four-month-old tank. I have two clownfish, a tiny cherub angel, a skunk cleaner shrimp, two turbos, and many hermit crabs. My anemone has been acting funny lately. I was gone for a week, but the fish sitter fed brine shrimp once and a mix of other foods. Can give tank specs:

Ammonia: 0, tested with the red sea test kit
Salinity: 0.126, added RO water
20 gallon with sump
Temperature: 77 Degrees

what’s your alkalinity level, what kind of light are you using? 4 month is a bit short for anemone but it’s doable.

Need to upgrade those lights and test for Alkalinity. Would recommend AI prime and alkalinity to be at more than 8.0 dkh and less than 12dkh.

We need to know a lot more. Nitrite? Nitrates? Lighting? The anemone doesn’t look great but doesn’t look horrible either. What type of Nem? Looks long tentacle to me.

testing nitrites, nitrates and alkalinity now

Nitrates at 20 and nitrites at 0. will do another test tonight

Nitrates are a bit high not on dangerous levels if you can bring it down to less than 10ppm and it might change, but I still think it’s your light.

Anemones do best where lighting and flow are moderate and nitrate around 6
Lighting and Nitrates are likely your issue

I’ve had an Anemone similar to this for a while, and I’ve come to the conclusion it’s probably my lighting setup. The lights I have are nowhere near good enough and I need to upgrade. Probably the same issue for you.

I thought you said anemones need 0.6ppm in a different thread?

6ppm or 0.6ppm?

That last confusion was the zero , was not to be there
I love my Iphone but hate the spell correct and word suggestion feature

Here's a reference for you to keep

Thank you, Vetteguy!

Really anything from 3 to 25ppm is fine, if his nitrates are 20, that’s not the cause of his issues. It’s likely lighting, unstable Alk, salinity is off, and undoubtedly tank immaturity. I know that we like to be able to test for a certain parameter, but something I’ve found over the years is that anemones and some corals just won’t do well in an immature tank, despite everything being stable and in range, having proper lighting and flow, there’s just something lacking in immature tanks. I don’t know if it’s bacterial, if it’s microfauna/plankton, I don’t know, but there is a certain unknown quality of mature tanks that some anemones and corals seem to need to thrive.

my anemone is coloring up, no idea why it's doing this. it was all of a sudden, with the last two hours probably the light. Sorry for the trouble everyone, thanks, will update if things get bad again
