I absolutely adore my carpet nem! I've got five clowns which all ignored for months till outta the blue one day they were fighting over it. It's a great thing but can take patience, strong lighting, and pristine water.

Clown are less likely to host a maxi so far as I know.

Depends on the Powerhead but you can place sponge on the intake to keep safe.

How long has your tank been running?

It'll depend on the anemone type you end up with. With my carpet I've never seen it move but some do. Better safe than sorry.

I have a lot of comments here.
1. If you're going to get an anemone, all water intakes will need to be guarded, including pumps, power heads and overflows. see here. https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/an...14758-help-please-anemone-stuck-overflow.html

2. I would not recommend more than one pair of clowns per tank. Usually the stronger pair will kill the weaker pair or they will all die from stress.

3. Maxi minis are nice but they don't host clowns and may even eat them. They will host some shrimp and crabs.

4. Your best bet for your first clown hosting anemone is a bubble tip.

5. Before you try a full size carpet anemone, I recommend you read and learn everything you can about them. As Liquid said, they "take patience, strong lighting, and pristine water". And a deep sand bed to bury their foot in and getting a healthy one to begin with can be a challenge. If you do everything right and keep the carpet happy it will reward you by growing and growing and growing to about 2 feet in diameter.

All great points - would like to add this one.

I would suggest you try a long tentacle anemone for two reasons.

LTA's are more forgiving of light and water quality
Most clown fish will eventually host an LTA over a bubble tip ( from experience)

My fathers 500g reef had a carpet around 3ft diameter, around 20yrs old that would eventually consume the two biggest most beautiful fish in his reef, an Achilles and a purple tang.. Both were HUGE fish. Just FYI.
I agree 100% with everything coralreefer said... Although I'm the odd man out when it comes to keeping multiple clowns in a tank. My experience seems to have taught me something different than most.
