So I was looking way back on the beginning of this build thread and looking at all the plans I had for the tank. Originally I was targeting to have a DIY sump. Well, this build is far from over and is a year in the making; we finally have the DIY sump in progress! This week I drilled the side of the tank and yesterday evening I got the baffles installed! The sump is a standard 75g tank, 3 holes are drilled in the side. The lowest hole will be the main drain from the main display, one of the upper holes will be the secondary, and the emergency will come over the top. The 3rd hole is my secret hole. Don't ask.
I decided to go with one large chamber because I don't run a refugium and honestly never will. I will run an algae scrubber or cheato reactor before I make a disgusting ugly refugium in my sump ;Vomit
The baffles are only to provide less bubbles into the return chamber. The water height will be 10", providing me roughly 33 gallons of running volume. Sump spills will be a thing of the past, as I will have plenty of volume to hold what drains from the display.
Water test will happen tomorrow and I need to order some Angry red plumbing. Hopefully swapping sumps by the weekend of the 17th.

Scrubbed some of the hair algae off the rocks today, what a mess! I'm going to try a little more activity to reduce phosphates.
I bought some new pieces this week and sent our my 2nd icp test. I'm really interested to see how my corrections are reflected on this test!

So I haven't posted my most recent ICP results. Some items were a bit strange like vanadium increasing after not dosing it. Calcium increased randomly as well. Barium is very interesting... I dosed enough to increase it to 15.. but it went down...
Lastly my nitrates are getting high... so as a result I'm going to be starting some NOPOX. I'm going to set it up on a doser and we'll see how that goes.
I'm also considering adding another doser for my daily elements I add. This will be more critical as time goes on and I inevitable forget more regularly. I've been very disciplined with it so far.
Corals are still doing well! Hair algae is also doing well. With some nutrient reduction and some vibrant I plan to beat it back.

On a side note.... I'm considering taking my largest rock structure (the part that slopes) and turning it to slope from the back.... any opinions on this?

No one cares about me possibly turning my rocks 180 degrees? ;Drowning
NoPox is officially on the system. They made their bottles better... they got rid of the ugly white bottle and it's black now! Also the top comes ready to install dosing line! So no more drilling the cap and adding a 1/4" bulkhead. Super easy. I'm starting my dose at 4ml / day. Last I checked Nitrate we were at 50. Let's see how it progresses and hope the doser doesn't decide to dump in 1000ml.
Another side note: This tank seems to constantly struggle with "cloudy" or "hazy" water.... If I run carbon it will be super clear for a few days... but I've seen plenty of tanks that don't use anything and are super clear.... I need to do some more digging into this!

Have you used nopox before? I used it early on in my current tank, like you I started small. I had a small bacteria outbreak at first. It went away pretty quick.
Do you think the wrasses are causing the cloudy or hazy water? Are they diving into the sand a lot?

I used it when I first started this tank. Then I just stopped, somewhere in this blackhole of a thread I think I say why lol.
Only my leopard is a sand diver, but the gobies on the other hand.... ;Pompus However, I think that would be more related to 'particles' in the water, since the clarisea the particles have decreased but the haziness continues

Aesthetically I think it will look cool and open up your view through the tank a bit.
Keep in mind the lowest point of your rock work would now be under the center of the light fixture. That may or may not be problematic depending on what kind of coral you might want there low in the middle. Can you get enough light on the sticks you’d be looking to place higher towards the overflow?

Looks like I've been a ghost for the past month. There's not much of an update though other than my struggles with cloudy water continue. The livestock in the tank is doing well though - however, I lost my golden rhomboid and I'm not happy about that. There was no indication of what happened there and all other livestock is doing good.
I got back my third ICP test results and there are some perplexing results again but nothing that is 'bad'. It seems my tank is sucking up barium so I'll have to dose even more! Next, my Alk and Calcium continue to rise on their own. I am not dosing anything for alk or calcium. But yet it goes up.
I installed a "power filter" in the sump, modeled after DSR @glennf. However, I have not noticed any changes yet. I've changed the filter wool once so far because it was really dirty, but I didn't see the 'nano' bubbles coming out of the pump that are suggested to indicate it is 1)working 2) close to being required to swap the wool.
It is actually ridiculous that I have the following mechanical filtration in place but my tank is still cloudy and snow globe like:
1) Clarisea roller mat
2) Powerfilter with filter wool (2-3 layers)
3) Pinky Filter
4) Skimmer
It's been suggested to get back to basics and reset this tank though a series of water changes. It wouldn't hurt to do a good sand siphoning as well. I'm going to consider this a little more but let me know what you would do if you had this issues!
