Alright... let's chat about some things and stuff...
When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much.... oh wait... I mean't about reefing.. ;Facepalm
So previously I eluded to a master plan I had for my ICP test. Well I picked up 14 individual elements to begin correction dosages (Potassium, Bromine, Strontium, Fluoride, Iodide, Barium, Molybdenum, Nickel, Manganese, Chrome, Cobalt, Iron, Zinc, Rubidium). Yup... that's a ton of elements. 9 of these elements are only used as 'correction' elements based on the ICP results. The target is not only to restore the levels back to natural seawater, but to give them a slight boost as well.
The remaining 5 elements, Iodide, Manganese, Chrome, Cobalt, and Iron, are dosed in very small amounts daily for the rest of my life. If any of these appear detectable as part of the next ICP test, I will have to limit my dosing or stop until the next test shows undetectable.
I began the correction dosages on Friday December 13th... and I decided to go slowly and draw most elements out to 10 doses. I completed all correction dosages this Sunday. Overall dosing is very easy, just add the elements to a high flow area, one after another. No signs of negative effects in the tank were shown at all. Now I will continue my daily elements and send out a new ICP test on January 2nd.
Additionally the Friday I began dosing, I added a few new frags to the tank as tester pieces, all of which are still doing very well (so far...). I will continue to update on these pieces as they develop.
As for the tank chemistry... I discovered a weird anomaly in relationship to Alkalinity. ICP reported my Alk around 9. Before I went on vacation last month I recorded Alk at 10.5. I tested Alk on the 14th and got 10.8.. weird I thought.... but it gets stranger. One week later, this past Saturday, I tested Alk again and got 11.8!? Let me tell you all this very clearly... I am NOT dosing anything another than what I posted above. Repeat after me, Angry Owl is not dosing any Alkalinity to his tank. Fun Fact: I'm not dosing Alkalinity to my tank... But yet... the level increased?
My loose very unscientific uneducated guess is due to the the vast amount of corrections elements I had to dose to the water, potentially impacting the Alk levels. But no idea....
My phosphates were also on the rise. I tested this weekend and got the max hanna checker reading 200. So I dosed 12 drops phosphate-rx down the drain lines. The next day I measured phosphates at 163. I will be cutting down my food for the next week and see if that drives down the levels. If not, I'll dose more phosphate-rx. Due to the high levels, green hair algae has a strong foot hold.
One last item... I experienced two loses this past week. 1) my brain coral perished. I am blaming the foxface because I saw he developed a taste for it apparently... 2) my gold midas blenny randomly passed. No idea why but I suppose these things happen.... :mad:
