I can give it a go. I won't know what I am looking at, and can't take pictures of what I see, so I will need some help with that ....

Bottles for melafix and pimafix both say to dose 5ml per 10g. Is that the dosage I want for this?

Ok, "the fix" is in. Melafix and Pimafix both added (they smell interesting).

That spot is looking much worse today, so I did a 50% water change, and started nitrofuracin green powder. I know this is a long shot, but it is worth a try.

Keep at it for 10-14 days. I hate bacterial infections.

It's only been two days in NGP, but I am seeing improvement already. That's encouraging, but I'll wait until it's cleared completely before declare victory!

I can't wait to get back to experimenting with NFG again. I think it might be "the answer" for a lot of these bacterial issues that keep popping up. dang shame it has gotten so expensive though.

If you do be careful. It’s carcinogenic. I wouldn’t use it in my home

Methylene blue has only been proven to be carcinogenic at extremely high dosages over a long period of time. It took lab rats 2 years to develop pancreatic islet tumors and small intestine tumors, when exposed to 25 or 50 milligrams of methylene blue trihydrate per kilogram body weight five days per week. Therefore, it is not listed as a known or possible carcinogen by ACGIH, NIOSH, OSHA, NTP or IARC.

Ok - but methylene blue is not NFG they are different chemicals no?

A little off topic ... but interesting.

Nitrofuracin Green Powder (NGP) includes nitrofurazone, sulfathiazole, and MB.

I think the carcinogen risk being referred to for NGP is nitrofurazone, not MB. I did some googling, and could find references to proven causality for cancer in mice:https://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/htdocs/lt_rpts/tr337.pdf

For humans, the WHO says that it is not classifiable: https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/a?dbs+hsdb:@term+@DOCNO+3136

I think that means that we don't really know about humans, but we do know that mice that were fed the stuff developed cancer.

@MnFish1 - are there other sources that have more specific references?

Interesting, did not know that nitrofurazone was considered a possible carcinogen. I believe it's primarily still used as an ointment by vets.

And I think it is still used. But - Im just not sure I would want a lot of it hanging around in a tank - and dumping the liquid may be a problem

There are all sorts of medications you can't use on food-producing animals that are allowed for dogs, cats, horses, etc. Pretty much every single medication we use on aquarium fish is prohibited for aquafarming. Different rules apply when animals are meant for human consumption. ;)

I know - I Know the others - metronidazole, kanamycin, etc etc etc I would never use a furan. just saying. Yeah - all good and all - but - to me not worth it

By the way - just saying - even at the start that was a horrible wound. Not a blemish.

Well, you didn't see it at the start - it was a blemish when the fish came in, and it got bigger, which is when I turned to the forum for help.
