Another Noob - This time from Ireland

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Keep us posted on your build with lots of pics! :)

Welcome to R2R from a fellow European. I know it might be difficult and complicated but listen to my advice and try to get a sump. It would make reefing about 97% more pleasant and less complicated for you. I know you now think you might not need it but trust me when I say you'll just encounter difficulties you wish you didn't have.

wow so many welcomes - really is an active and passionate forum! thankyou very much

I agree a sump is THE way to go, makes perfect sense when you think about even just the job of somewhere to put stuff let alone the actual benefits for the tank. unfortunately the stand is more like a fancy piece of oak furniture with 2 cubby's both only 12" square, s0 me it dosnt make sense trying to squeeze in a sump.
The end game is to go to a 5'x2'x2' display tank with large sump but that is going to be down the line - i appreciate it would probably cheaper in the long run to do this once however having only recently bought this set up ive to prove to swmbo that i can actually keep a reef thriving. Again if its 5 years away i would probably want new equipment however im buying now with a larger set up in mind.
Eg radions instead of something smaller/ cheaper - even down to the RODI im planning
i suppose aswell i want to prove to myself that i can make it work, my nearest LFS is 2 hours away so nothing is on my doorstep.
Im happy doing repetitive maintenace tasks whilst i work towards a controller altho i intend an ATO from the off. in my head i feel doing things 'the hard way' will benefit my learning and appreciation if that makes sense
anyhoo thats how i justify no sump etc in my head lol
cheers everyone and thanks again for the welcome

Welcome, Andy!
It's good to have you with us. A tank without a sump is absolutely doable but it is a bit more work for you. Starting out, you want every advantage you can to be successful. Your larger planned tank will certainly be easier on you but the lessons learned being successful with your current setup will pay dividends for your upgrade.
Use this forum to help as we are as interested in your overall success and satisfaction as you. Looking forward to your build thread.

It was sunny both times I was there. Granted it was only 2 different 8 hr layovers. It was amazing to see grass the second layover. Both times my 18yr old buddies just got hammered in the airport.
