I will say, I actually really like watching the interaction between my 2.5 males and the females. The 2 full males are constantly showing off and flashing fins at each other which makes for a pleasurable viewing experience. Thankfully it’s never anything more than posturing, no actual fights.Just another update for those following my anthias drama:
The 4 females that were added seem to have all settled in as certain females. Their color is more orange/ light pink than anything. There's certainly a social hierarchy among them, which makes me feel sorry for the 2 on the bottom.
The 2 females that were already in there have gotten a deeper red, but one of them clearly looks like she is transitioning. She's gotten much more of a thick, squared off body in the last few days, and the telltale "spikes" on her fins are developing. The transitioning fish is clearly "alpha" and noone is willing to challenge it anymore.
Its the "beta" that drives me a bit nuts at times. I'm hoping this one doesn't also transition. So far its only got a deeper color, but isn't undergoing any of the physical changes that the first is. This one likes to show all the other females that she's boss, and can be a bit of a jerk. From what I've researched, this might end up being a "male in waiting" or "sub-male" that isn't either a full female or male.
I'm really glad that TSM didn't recommend a male, I feel like I definitly would have ended up with two males, and I'm sort of excited to watch the current one undergo the transformation.
I just ordered 9 female lyretails from TSM and cant wait for them!
