Anthias with Cloroquine Phosphate

The cases of anthias surviving CP treatment are very few and far between so I'm glad you shared. Still, there are too many cases of anthias dying in the first 2 or 3 days of CP treatment for me to risk it. Right now they are in 0.85ppm of copper (Coppersafe). I'll ramp that up over the next few days. The Hanna tester really is a game changer from the last time I QT'd. Other than Anthias, I've had great success using Coppersafe. Not sure why I've struggled so much with them. Hoping I get this one right, and the checker may be the key to making that happen.

I did not think my CP should not have been bad. The shelf life is supposed to be more than a year. The pharmacy put the expiration date of a year on the bottle. Maybe the CP was already degraded and that is why the anthias survived.
In the end, after over 2 months in QT the last remaining of the 6 anthias was killed within a few minutes by my "male/female" clown.
Total bust.

I am interested to hear if you notice appetite supression with them. I have had zero issues with fish eating after being acclimated to copper. I know these guys can be finicky. Just curious to hear what they do once you have attempted to feed.

Anthias are just a tough fish to QT. They tend to be plagued with internal parasites and they don't transition to prepared food well. I'm hoping they don't have flukes because I'm convinced I lost one group of Anthias due to appetite suppression from Prazi. Didn't have much choice because they did have flukes....

I put an MP40 in the tank with them and have a few frozen foods to try and entice them to eat. I also collected 20 to 30 amphipods from my fuge and put them in the tank. I really want to make this work. I will say that these fish arrived much healthier than my previous two batches. Still relatively fleshed out and no signs pinched stomachs. Breathing was nice and steady in the bags. I have hope!

The ignitus never showed any appetite suppression in CP or Copper. All came from LA, one DOA. I picked ignitus from reading posts in the fish thread specifically by eatbreakfast. The clown killed 4, some were bigger than itself; a not so peaceful Wyoming White.

I have not found anthias to be at all susceptible to ich/velvet, so I just observe for 4 weeks in QT. They are susceptible to uronema body lesions which are invaraibly fatal anyhow. My last group of four bimac females sailed through QT and are now happily ensconced in the display .... and one is now a dude. If you do decide to treat, probably best to get them eating first. Never have had issues getting this species to eat.

A group of Anthias have always been on my wish list for my tank but I never pulled the trigger because of how hard it seems to be do a successful qt on them. but I think I might go a head and giving it a go. My plan of action would be to drop the salinity when they come in and get them into hypo for 5-7 days while getting them eating without the use of any meds that can suppress their appetite. This will deal with the flukes and keep velvet and ich at bay and then slowly raising the salinity within a few days and starting copper power (with Hanna checker) to treat for ich and velvet for 14 days and then TT to a new tank for observation. I would probably like to use Metro for a couple of days to treat for uronema somewhere along the line.
maybe hypo route would be better then using prazipro on them for flukes? as gentle as it tends to be I have seen a lot of fish not being able to really tolerate it well.

About the only thing I highly suspect we will have big trouble with is rays and sharks.

This would be a good question for @alprazo , an expert in this area who is not terribly active on this forum but is on the "other forum" lol. I've seen him mention that some elasmobranchs handle copper ok while others don't, but the details escape me at the moment.

Well, it is a battle that isn't quite over yet. I started with the 7 and added them to water mixed to 0.75ppm copper using Coppersafe. 2 of the fish had visible issues from shipping and neither made it. I raised copper to 1.75pm over 3 days and did two rounds of ABX. My goal was to have them in QT for as short a time as possible but still keep my DT fish safe. I transferred the remaining 5 on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, as I was walking the fish in a small container from one room to another it jumped and landed on the floor. I got him back in the water immediately but he was dead 5 minutes later. I put the remaining 4 in an acclimation box in my tank for the day and let them lose the next morning. When I let them lose they all hid as expected. After a day or so, 2 of them started coming out more. I thought for sure I would lose the other two since they wouldn't come out to feed. But, eventually, a third also started coming out. Those three are doing well. The 4th is still alive (as of last night) but still won't come out from where he hides.
So, I will likely have gotten 3 of 7 successfully into my DT. Not a great job on my part.

Oh wow! sorry to hear specially about the one that jumped ship. Considering that they don't ship very well and are really hard to qt and keep, I say you did everything you can on your part and hopefully the 4th one will come out soon and start eating. I really want to pull the trigger and get a group but I'm scared and pessimistic about the outcome

I had 2 of them that started acting lathargic, and I was trying to save the two who didn't ship well. I figured that internal bacterial infection was a possibility, so that is why I treated.

Never ordered from them. Are they a Quality Marine shipper or Sea Dwelling Creatures? I picked mine up from Fishy Business; Sea Dwelling Creatures drop ship. There was a shipping issue and I think the loss was due to that more than the health of the fish that died.
Hope they adapt and live up to the semi-aggressive status.

I don't know who their wholesaler is, but I'm pretty sure the fish are shipped from BZA, not a direct shipment from a wholesaler.
