depends on what you would like to do. IMHO wet dry is a waste and bio balls are bad. I would look at an eshopps or building a sump its not that expensive or hard to do.

That's what I figured. I didn't want to go the bio ball route. Thank you
You can turn that into something decent if you like. and itll be pretty much free. by removing the bioballs chamber, putting cheato instead and a skimmer and return pump on the second chamber.

Okay I'm VERY new to this. What is a cheato? And how would I have the 2 overflow houses attach to it

No problem, we were all new at one point lol So, I would remove the T on wet dry so that way it will become just one drain into the wet dry and not need two overflow hoses. I will then only use one of the egg crate squares (the white grid looking thing) , the top one and put filter floss on that egg crate. Water will flow from the tank and pass through the filter floss, that will be the first stage. Then, where the bio balls go , I would put cheato in there. then the water will pass over to the second chamber where the skimmer and return pump will be.

Cheato is a macro algae used to eat up nitrates/ phosphates from out aquariums. It is most commonly used in reef aquarium sumps.

You sometimes can find someone close with some or a local reef shop though I am not sure of any ne'er you I can pm you a guy sells it cheap. I personally do not use filter media some do some don't up to you I feel any of the media for filtering turn into nitrate factories.

I'm not going to do the wet dry filtration . I wanted to do a sump.
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of reef stores around me Kingston/ Poughkeepsie area that carry alot of products.

Ya that type of model would get the job done for you, BUT you could make one out of a much cheaper 30 or 40 gal glass tank. All you need is to buy the tank (any local fish store or big box pet store that sells fish supplies), buy some small pieces of acrylic sheeting (home depot, lowes, menards) cut to size and install with aquarium safe silicone. It might not end up looking as clean as a professionally fabricated sump, but could save you a pretty penny to put towards the rest of your tank :)

You could use this as a basic how-to guide and then design whatever sump you want with whatever chambers and baffles you want. There are plenty of DIY vids on youtube that are helpful

no worries! It all comes down to how you want your setup to look, but functionality can be pretty simply attained. Here is a pic of my DIY sump. I have had sumps that I loved the look of much more, but since this is in a fish room hidden from normal view, it'll do until funds allow a sweeter one :)
