I just ordered a Sander 25mg Ozonizer and Milwaukee controller. I was wondering if any of you are using ozone and if you could provide any details and tips for using it. i have been researching it and checking out some articles on RC. Just wanted to see what you all thought about it.

Thanks

Water clarity is a big one. But, ozone scares me. Maybe I read too many threads about people nuking their tanks a few years ago.

I have a Red Sea ozonizer. I used it on my old 10 gallon nano, the fish looked like they were floating.
The benefits are; it gets rid of algae, kills some diseases and most of all, makes water A LOT clearer.
Chris, just be careful because ozone makes the water 3x clearer and your corals can bleach. Also, post pics now then later, I'm sure it will be cool. Good Luck.

Thanks! I will have the ozonizer, orp controller, air dryer, and acc all next week. I hope to start it slowly in the next couple of weeks. I have seen a few tanks with it running (Leishman's especially) and the clarity is unbelievable!!!

Chris, I am looking forward to hearing about the results. We have kicked this around for a few years. Good luck and keep us informed.

If you start to smell something really sweet, it's the ozone. Get out of the room fast. I got the biggest headache one time when I was going into my room to check everything out. I was only in there for less than 5 minutes.

I took mine off-line for 2 reasons:

1: I didn't have time to be baking the air-drying beads every 3 to 4 days.
2: I didn't get it tweaked right to not have that nasty smell and with kids in the house I had to pull it off-line.

But...... I have a friend who is building me a custom ozone reactor to run all air output through carbon along with all the water leaving the unit. The only O2 reactor out there now is the Shuran and it is ~$800 and designed for fresh water. He's also building me a custom air dryer that will hold ~5lbs of media and thus cut down on the frequency of me having to bake the stuff.

I'm hoping to be back up and running the O2 in 6-8 weeks.

Opps! O3 (edit completed)

Isnt the drier just activated carbon?

I am actually a chermist, but I couldnt build something out of wood or steel to save my life.

They are Silica beads (like those that come in a packet in the box w/new shoes!)

so just a deccicant of some sort to ensure the unit doesnt suck up moisture?

Thanks for the info everyone! I should have everything this week. I'll let the ORP controller self calibrate for 5 days before I begin injecting ozone. This is gonna be fun. I can't wait to see how clear it gets!

UPDATE

I received my ORP controller today as well as the air dryer , check valve, o3 resistant tubing. The sanders ozonizer and tee should be here tomorrow.

From what I understand I have to let the controller run on the system for about 5 days, then hook up the ozonizer.

Right now the controller is reading 153mV and rising!
