Any of You Using Ozone?

UPDATE

Tank is doing wonderful! One thing I can say is that the skimmate isn't as dark, but it seriously smells 10x worse. I joke about throwing up when I smell it, but this time I serious gaged. That stuff is potent!

I have the tank running at 380mV and the ozonizer didn't come on much today. I guess that is a good sign. I am thinking about pushing it up to 400mV, but I am unsure if it is worth it. What do you all think?

You can have a maximum level of 430mv. That should push oxygen levels to saturation. A dissolved oxygen test will tell you if you need anymore ozone.
Ozone removes DOC's and increases the water's ability/potential for higher oxygen levels.

Thanks for the info! I think I am gonna push it to 400mV today and see what happens. I guess it wouldn't hurt to be a bit clearer, if that's possible. Have you decided whether or not your going to run it again?

Yes.
I will need an injector for one beckett port for the skimmer. Then a controller, ozonizer, I have a luft G pump now.
I need to buy 5 MH bulbs from Coralvue first...$300 Plus!!! Ouch!!!
The bulbs are getting old and won't make it pass July without losing too much PAR. The 2 150w bulbs burnt out last month. I am hoping they are the bulbs and not the ignitors that are falling. The bulbs were cheap no name 10K's with Japenese writing on the box...$10 ea.
I am interested in pushing the redox up more than the clarity. Clarity is a huge bonus and affects the PAR readings, but the dissolved oxygen is more important. It oxidizes everything we fight in the tank! That part I love!

LMK, if you get or borrow a Dissolved oxygen kit for some readings, and let me know if the lower DOC counts are affecting your pod populations.

Well. I decided not to push it to 400mV. I am going to stop by the LFS and pick up a DO kit. I'll let you know what results that gives me. I'll also keep an eye on the pod population. Have you found that it is heavily affected?

Juvenile pods feed on the "murky water" Some DOC is food to larvae of many small critters. Clarity=reduction in overall nutrients, so depending on how much you feed the tank depends on how it will/will not affect the system.

Very interested in DO readings!

I've been so busy! I haven't had a chance to pickup that DO test kit. I'll try to get one this week.

UPDATE

Tank is crystal clear with no trace of ozone in the air. I have noticed that the skimmate production has gone up. I guess this maybe because I a running the skimmer very wet. It still smells horrible though. I have also noticed that the ozonizer doesn't come on much anymore. No complaints here! This stuff is AWESOME!

you have more water in your skimmer than the tank

what model ozone did you get? i am looking at the enaly units (have to order 3 of them)

LOL! I love this skimmer! I got the Sander 25mg/hr.

Sorry Firemouth. I haven't been able to get to the LFS ;ately and have not yet bought a DO test kit. I'll try to get one asap. On a side note, I decided yesterday to push the tank to 400mV. It has been sitting at 380mV for awhile now and it doesn't seem like the ozonizer even turns on anymore. Water is still crystal clear though. I guess once it has reached a certain point and saturated the water, it is easy for it to keep the balance.

I'll update tonight with the results form the increase.

Take care.
