I need suggestions for an auto feeder to feed pellets. I don't know if i want one on the tank full time right now but I would definitely like to have one I could maybe throw on the tank when I'm leaving for a week or possibly going on vacation. I just want a reliable one. I do not have an Apex right either. I just need a reliable one that works well with pellets.

The Eheim auto feeder has been the standard for a long time. Neptune has one to connect to an Apex and Tetra just announced a WIFI auto feeder as well.

I would add my voice to the eheim folks. I have 2 eheim feeders and an intelli feed, for the money/ ease of use/ function, hands down the eheim. Reliable too, one of them has been in use for about 4 years, going strong!

Hands down Eheim "Classic" autofeeder. Been using and recommending them since the 90's. I still have my Eheim autofeeder from the 90's and still works.

The APEX autofeeder is a rebranded and reconfigured LifeGuard autofeeder. They both are a PITA (Pain In The butt) and if you aren't careful handling it, the top will pop off and dump the contents.

Great! I just ordered the Eheim feeder for myself based on this thread. Looking for something that will allow me to step away from the tank for a few days to week at a time. I'm going to try small crushed up nori flakes along with pellets in it.

Completely agree that the Eheim feeder is the way to go. Take your time with the instructions to get it set up right. Also, you might want to consider a feeding tube so the food doesn’t get taken away too quickly

Congratulations on the new feeder! Consider using the feeder for a week before you leave to make sure it works (remember to change the batteries when appropriate), the opening is set correctly (too much food or not enough can both be a problem), the food doesn’t float directly into the overflow, and the fish are looking for and eating the food from the feeder. The Eheim is a solid feeder, but I have learned the hard way over the years about what can go wrong.

Agree on the very easy to set up and reliable Eheim auto feeder

I have pretty high surface agitation and the pellets through the feeder (NLS) just float on back to the overflow and down the drain. I tried the feeder on both ends of the tank. Where it is now sits directly above the gyre. Any fixes for this?

I've used the cheap eheim feeder for several vacations now and it has worked just fine.

I know that there may be better options but here is one approach:

The feeding station should be placed directly below the auto feeder.

I tried eheim with no issues. I also mixed some Reefroids in to pellets and my fish was happy and were hanging out near the feeder all the time

Eheim very easy to setup and use. if you have an apex. . . AFS very good unit

This seems like another vital option for the eheim feeder. Some other forums on this site people have it dropping pellets over their return pump. I'll try that this afternoon.
