Any Thoughts On The Klir Filter?

Almost 20 days on klir.. water is cristal clear.. consumption reduced to very low levels.. my calculation says: at least a month of usage or more for one roll..

Its not always user error. The first two rolls consumed really fast.. after 1.5 roll i started to see reduction in consumption..

Advice: dont judge klir so soon.. give it time to stabilize and then it will work as expected.. and when you order dont forget to add 2-3 rolls to the order..

Mine was installed wrong and it ate through 3 rolls. After putting the sensor away from turbulence it started to work better. I finally ordered the y cable for using it with two klir at once. It's been pretty good so far after fixing my install issues.
 
I am so still on the fence about getting the Klir. Reading through the thread about usage and I wonder if it will be cost effective in the long run. I definitely do not need to use it for water clarity like I see some are boasting about it. I run both UV and Ozone and have crystal clear water already and that is with me feeding heavily, dosing phyto, etc. I was more thinking about the convenience factor, but I don't have an issue with changing socks that much to cost me much more than necessary.

Gonna keep following along with this thread and see if it'll be worth the expense once the Klir Di-7 is released. Also looking to see how responsive the manufacturer will be with some of the potential issues that I see people are experiencing and helping getting those resolved.

I know that CoralVue has historically been pretty great with supporting the products they sell so I wouldn't expect any different in this scenario, just contemplating the overall cost/value ratio.

Just because. I take them off line every once in a while. Just don't want to have to worry too much about cleaning the sump really. Not trying to go ULN either, just gives me stuff to tinker with that shouldn't affect my system overall.
 
It is unfortunate but inevitable that they wont work on EVERY sump but most of the sumps out there are compatible and a few can be compatible with a little modification.

Too bad there is no such thing as a standard for creating sumps. Even the filter socks themselves are slightly different from one to the other.

Being that the Trigger sock tray is removeable, do you think you guys may eventually sell a sock tray as an adapter for Trigger sumps?

So instead of the three 4" sock tray, you would sell a sock tray replacement (adapter) that has only two 4" slots lined up for two Klirs to fit?

A lot of people own Trigger sumps and it would be nice to have a tray where the Klir fits perfectly with no bypass from dremeling their own tray.

Also I’d get the Klir just because as well if I think it’ll work for what I want for my system. I’ve learned that although you don’t need any of this “extra” equipment, the IT side of me doesn’t allow me to not buy equipment, lol.

I bought a piece of polycarbonate from tap plastic in the scrap bin. $2 cut my own. Works great on my trigger.

My first roll lasted 2 days short of a month. Lets see how long for the second roll. I am happy to not have to clean socks.
Working well so far

I know you did, and you did a good job. I'm just not confident that I will get the tray so there's no bypass. I would think an "official" adapter tray would be an easy thing and something they can make money on.

It's not hard to see how it sits in the tray and enclosed the tray to make water pass only through the klir. You have to cut it so it can sit in it flush.
 
How much does the water level drop when the sensor is activated and moves the roll? It seems that, once the unit has stabilized, you would have a water level above your sock plate at all times, is that correct? My DIY 20g long sump has an area where the next baffle keeps about an inch of water over the top of the socks so there's no airspace under the sock plate, is that a problem? There is room to build an adapter to raise the Klir, if needed, but I don't see where it would need to be any higher than the difference between sensor activation and shutoff. If the level doesn't drop the full 1.5 inches then I might not have to raise it or increase the height of the wall above the sock plate. Is my thinking right?
 
I finally got the parts for min from coralvue and it is now working. They thought I had a bad sensor but it ended up being a bad controller. It's only been running for 24h and so far so good .I like the fact that the paper only advances a short amount. I was affraid it would roll up more than it needed to satisfy the sensor but that's not the case. If I can get a month out of a roll I will be happy. I'd prefer longer but I have real expectations. After a couple months I may look to getting a second one to prolong roll changes.

You need the water level to be able to rise about an inch above the sock plate. I dont think it would matter if the bottom is under water as long as the bubbles that get through can escape
 
I appreciate everybody's feedback on this. Being it's the first version of the product, I think personally, I may wait to see if they come out with a more refined version like what happened with the Maxspect Gyre's first edition.

They saw the flaws, took the feedback, and released the 200 series roughly a year later. I think I may wait for the Klir 2.0 to see if there are improvements to things like the controller, where you can plug 2 units directly into a more robust controller or a feed mode or something for when you turn the return pump off.

I've gotten off the early adopter train because I've gotten burned one to many times. I would love for people to keep the longer term use updates flowing though, and ways they've improved or found ways best to install and use the unit.
 
I've pondered the thought of running mine off a Apex breakout box. Should be fairly simple.
