Anybody else do this?

I just realized this morning that when I wake up I look for every fish that I have in my tank to make sure they're still alive is that morbid or does anybody else do that?

Haha.. yes. A headcount is usually the first thing I do when I look at the tank.

Good husbandry of livestock dictates eye contact with every animal every day. Its not always possible with some reclusive creatures, but it's a good practice.

It does sound obsessive, but yes, I think its all part of the game.

Glad this was asked bc I check all tanks for headcount and also make sure all equipment is in check. I feel a little ocd at times but imo it shows the dedication we put into this hobby.

My newest tank is only about 4 months old, and yes, there is a daily roll call...

Don't feel lonely. I do the same thing.

I do my head count in the evenings when I feed them. That way I can get a good look at them and make sure every one is eating.

Yep! Quarantine tank is the worst! I check it obsessively. And right now I have a Yellow Belly Regal angel in my observation tank. She is the first and last thing I see every day. I named her/him Wishbone due to the misbar nature of it. Even on its face. I check to be sure they are acting normal. Water temp. Etc. Drives me crazy if I do not see one. I start checking the sump, flashlight on to search the underside of the tank. I think they hide from me and laugh as I look frantically for them!

I would do a head count...assuming that I could find the heads to count! Eh. They hide.
