Anybody got any solutions for plug space?

Why not use a couple smart surge strips like the Kasa, tp-link, or APC units, or similar. you can control them via voice command if you use Alexa or Google, or via a phone app, or using the buttons on the strips. you can even use them to program scenes/routines, to automate your tank a bit.
I have children....nothing on voice command.

"Why does the skimmer shut off when I yell "POO POO PANTS"?

Same. 5 and almost 3. It's a battle. The oldest, the boy at least has a casual interest in science and pumpin the question WHY at you while your elbow deep in something, my daughter....forget it. She's a liability around buttons/switches/plugs. Nothing is safe.

I took some Acrylic Strips, bent them to 90 degrees, using a heat gun with the Acrylic Strip Clamped to the edge of a work bench. My Surge Strips are attached to the back of the aquarium stand with them protected by the Acrylic Shield. An easy way to get the Key Hole Screws in the proper position, is to put Blue Masking Tape on the Back of the strip. Rub around the key hole and punch a small hole in the Tape, where the small end is at. Transfer the Tape to the cabinet, and install your screws. Just peel the tape off around the screws, no need to remove them.

I recently went through a plug re organization. I had lots of little surge protector cords and it was driving me crazy. So, I got these and all is going great. Needed one with timers and one without. so far, much more compact and easier to deal with and keep safe. All off Amazon (sorry, links not working).
