Anyone else hate live sales?

CC sells GMK zoas for $1200 per polyp…most I’ve ever paid was $100 for a 3 polyp frag. Over priced in my book as with 95% of everything on their site! I just don’t understand it.

Where are you looking? All I see is a 3 polyp frag for $200.

Hahaha, they literally updated their website since Monday because they had them listed at $1200 per polyp and out of stock.

fun concept and i’ve got a cool piece that way but missed out on a really nice hammer colony because the order instagram showed comments :/
i claimed first and had proof but on their end they saw the other guy first which was lame

Tried one once. Just not my thing sitting and refreshing a screen all day. It strikes me as more a bunch of hype for the vendors and a social activity for members. Which is cool if your into that but I'm somewhat anti social.
Pics are always heavily edited and unrealistic IMO which is the main reason I buy from very few online vendors. Images have just gotten nuts and so many people oohing and aahing like they are real makes me just shake my head.
I'm probably just a crotchety old guy.

Live sales were somewhat fun when I was first filling out my current tank. I found some nice deals.

Now I just wait and see if they put up all the remaining corals afterwards and then see if anything interesting I want is there and buy it then.

I refuse to participate in a live sale. I'm not a fan. Wife kids responsibilities. Who's got time to sit around and refresh the page all day. Have an actual sale. Announce it on R2R and let people go to the website and purchase the coral they want.

They are definitely preying on impulse buyers. As long as people support this, vendors will continue to do them. As long as R2R see sponsor revenue, it will continue to be allowed.

Can't stand em. Less the concept, more the giant ads. I don't care that a few corals are 90% off, the rest are 10% off, and they still cost 300$ for a frag. You can choose whether or not to participate in the sale itself, but you can't choose to participate in the ads. I just love getting a face full of giant neon-colored flashing banners every time I log on. There's also a live sale happening basically all of the time, we need to stop acting like it's a special or unique experience.

This isn't the early days of the internet. If you repeatedly see ads, then you choose to allow whoever is showing them to you to do so.

And tbh, allowing that is a rather small price to pay for the resource that this forum is. Forums are a dying breed and not some big evil corp.

I drove 4 hours to an lfs in the south of our state because they always have the nicest corals posted expecting to be amazed and in awe. It was the exact opposite, the owner relies on auctions and only has basic cheapo ugly stuff in the for sale tanks in the shop and has a completely separate farm in the back full of the good stuff for auction only. Pretty lame

I definitely don’t want anything to negatively affect the forum. Just find them annoying, and as another poster said, there is so many it just isn’t special. And it does clutter up the forum me love so much. That potentially can drive people away as well.
