I'm thinking to build a circular(half eliptic) ramp and move light from one side of the aquarium to the other sideNow, I suppose the devil is in the details when you use the word "replicate" because you could simulate it with light timing and intensity. However, in my case, that wouldn't address the shading issues as the lights wouldn't physically move...only the photoperiod would vary for each light during the day. If that is how you meant the word "replicate", I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
This is along the same lines as I was thinking as well. Then I thought, "If all I'm trying to do is reduce shading, maybe I should change my light type." LOL Seems like changing lights is more straightforward than having a mechanical device to physically move lights around.I'm thinking to build a circular(half eliptic) ramp and move light from one side of the aquarium to the other side
Virtually, there is a video for everything lolmelev has a YouTube video on this
I was actually considering a racetrack design where the position (and possibly intensity) are varied throughout the photoperiod.

Those are good points!I've seen a few places use light movers in the past (10+ years ago) where they would use 1 or 2 metal halides to cover an entire vat. It proved problematic for selling corals since you'd have to wait for the light to come back.
There is one led light that moves I can't think of the brand off hand. I saw it about a year or 2 ago and it has not become popular. Even if something like this worked for growth I think it would be annoying for viewing and would probably be limited to grow out tanks as far as usability.
Wasn’t there a light that did this recently? Focustronic maybe?
Hehe your drawing is awesome xD

That's the one.

But is there a reason why you planned on doing a 'reversed' arc ?
And about the shading that it would prevent , that would be a great benefit imo.
