My design is like that but my rail arc is reverse to decrease the light height in correlation to water surface in the middle of the arc vs making it higher off the water surface most of the day.ok

so you would need at least another motor/configuration to make it turn towards the water... Mine would be like a cart on a rail it would change angle as it moves .. I understand that you want to keep the light source cloe to water , but how close does it need to be ? Liking the concepts here. However on a side note, there are seasonal lighting table programs available thru Neptune Apex and probably other formats as well.
Also couldn’t you add 2(+) smaller lights on either side of the main lighting to achieve sunrise/ sunset effect?
Don’t get me wrong, Im not knocking a moving light rail or articulating fixture but wondering about the maintenance on moving parts hanging above the tank.
What about doing a DIY LED setup on curved panel, like a Samsung curved TV frame mounted horizontally over the tank? Less lights on either side with a heavier concentration in the middle and have channels set to fade from side to side.

there are some led fixtures wich are larger than others, but am I wrong or the most expensives/permormant ones includes less quantity of leds? C.Eymann's light itself appears to have only 1 led , I don't know much about leds but I wonder if a led 'ballast' is the expensive part? That could make possible to supply power to one led at a time and creating a roof of leds wich could recreate sun's movement.

I think the most expensive part of that setup would be the controller. This sounds like the best solution. The side LEDs could even be mounted at an angle. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience regarding any difference betwee a single linear light and a (multiple led/moving light) recreating the sun movement).

LEDs on a motorized track
Just curious if anyone has attempted lighting a larger aquarium with leds on a moving track. I've seen halide applications use this technology and I thought that it would be a great tool for leds as well. It could keep costs down dramatically for a larger display or growout and could be useful...www.reef2reef.com

FWIW, I wouldn't buy a kit. That would be like paying someone else to shop for me. But I do like your idea of a fixed canopy with a series of lights programmed in sequence. That's way less clunky than the mechanical solutions of the past.
BTW, nobody in this thread has claimed to have done it so not sure why you singled me out.
