Anyone have a Achilles tang?

I have three different types of tangs a yellow, yellow belly blue, a powder blue tang, could an Achilles go in there, maybe alliviate some of the PBT yellow belly blue quarreling. This is one of my fish I will eventually own when the time is right. Even if I have to get rid of the PBT.

Jford: I have them about 8 months and yes I added All at the same time! To be honest I like the PBT better they get so nice & fat! All fish are different so you just have to try them! I got 2 nice HT in a same tank together! I have a Achilles gold rim hybrid in another tank with 4 other tangs they all get alone fine also one being another black longnose tang! I got a pair of crosshatch triggers coming in Friday around noon with a tinkeri hybrid and a small passer angel! Should be at airport around noon! I hope all goes well with the crosshatch triggers I have never had a CH trigger before! If you get Achilles or PBT I would soak all food in garlic & selcon! Bct15: just a chance you have to take! Or should I say risk? U can try it just be ready for what ever happens! When I first put all of mine in tank during the day all was fine at nite with moon lites on was a war ! I had to turn out all lites every nite for about 3 weeks kept tank pitch black every nite! After about 3 weeks of total darkness at nite all was fine mine never fought during the day hope that helps you some! Also try the mirror trick!

you should provide plenty of swim space, lots of current. if possible, find one that's already established in a reef tank.

So I wanted to update this thread. After careful consideration I decided to get a powder blue and a Achilles. They went through TT in tanks right next to each other. The aggression at first was scary and we thought there's no way this is going to work but on the last transfer they both calmed way down and now that they're in the tank ,they love one another! (The foxface isn't sure about them yet)

Look great! They should be fine! If they fight at night turn out all the lights and keep it pitch black in the tank! Good luck but I think you will be fine with them

It's a 200 gallon. The only fish we have in there right now are the Achilles, powder blue, fox face, and a pair of Wyoming white clowns. We added the Fox Face a week after the Achilles and Powder blue and had no problem but I fear as time goes on and he gets more comfortable that will change.

I got a pair of Wyoming whites also! They where very tiny when I got them after about 3 months they would lock mouths and fight like 2 dogs that lasted about 3 days then they where fine! Worst fighting I have ever seen!

Let me start out with saying that the Achilles Tang is probably my favorite Reef Fish BUT................. IME,IMO the VERY WORST to CONFINE in any Aquarium less than say 20,000 gallons like Bill Wans ??? I would conservatively say that 80% DIE in captivity, most within the first several days. I have worked in this industry for many years on the retail end have also had the pleasure to collect while in Hawaii. If any has seen these in the wild they would know just how unreasonable it is to think we can/should keep them in glass cages. A pair will defend and guard against most any intruder a territory larger than most major Public Aquariums main displays. I've seen them take on a school of Spinner Dolphins maybe 200+ strong and while walking the cliffs of Hawaii you can look down and get a great perspective to how large their territory is 50,000.... 100,000 gallons ???? There are always exceptions to the rule but as a whole these beautiful fish are ultra high strung animals that belong only in the wild. Hope you and any other keeping them the best of luck but please don't perpetuate the myth that it is an acceptable fish for our Reeftanks. NO APOLOGIES here, I take this one very seriously.

I truly appreciate your love for the Achilles. I'm in Hawaii often but I haven't had the opportunity to see them in their natural habitat. I try to be a responsible fish owner but cannot please everyone.

Dear TJ if your AT died with in a few days I'm sorry! I have had 3 in same 280 gallon tank all doing great! All fish are better off in the sea! Why would it be worst on a AT rather than a sohal or any other fish! We catch 1,000lbs wild horses tame & train them and they do great! These high dollar horses that not even you can afford live there life in a 12 x12 stall most live a better life than we do but the fact is they live in the wild on thousands of acreas of land! This has been going on for all of mankind! And you pick out one fish! Most all fish are the same and your right about being in the wild! But that would be the case for all fish not just the AT

Very nice AT I know what you mean by saying BULLIE wow they can woop any other fish! Mine is the same way! Looks great keep up the good work your purple looks nice also
