Anyone have a Achilles tang?

I know saying this people are going to get mad.
BUT
I had a large one about 7-8 inches.
I put him in my qt tank (60 gallon long48in). Filled with copper live rock and lots of sea weed in there for him to eat...
(There were 9 other qt fish in that tank with him)
After a month he was doI amazing eatting swimming not afraid of things going by the tank
I moved him to my display tank, 300 gallon, almost instantly looked horrible. I left him for a few days still looked bad wouldn't eat.
Caught him and put him back into the 60... Popped right back to health in a few days....
I decided to leave him in there bc he was happier there then in the 300. Idk why but he was....
He did die a few months later when our house lost power for almost 12 hours, and of course I was at work.
I think this is the wrong fish to qt, I think he needs to go we're he's going to stay to cause less stress.
I think heavy garlic, cleaner wrasses, and cleaner shrimp are all must to keep this fish healthy.

The achilles is an awesome fish. Nicer than the power blue IMO. I have had mine for about 2 years. He's in a 180g with 3 MP40's. He loves getting blasted by their flow. Your 200 should be fine.
Find a nice healthy one that is not to thin. I feed Green and Purple Sea Veggies every day. When I stopped feeding Sea Veggies for a few days he got these weird white marks around his face but as soon as I started feeding Sea Veggies again he was fine so now I feed it everyday. I also feed mysis everyday and NLS Pellets alternating with Ocean Nutrition Formula One and Prime Reef flakes every other day.
I would recommend not quarantining this fish. It's more undue stress on a delicate fish. Mine went right into the display as well as all my other fish. I guess I have been lucky when it comes to that. If you keep your fish fat they will stay healthy.

Brett at nicewrasse is the place to buy an achilles from. He does a great job getting the fish eating and healthy. I put mine in a QT and did the TTM for ich and he did fine. I just went through 10 weeks of fallow on my DT to get it ich free, so I wanted to make sure the achilles didn't have ich either. I recommend a QT for everything, even sensitive fish. Send Brett a pm and he will set you up with a healthy fish.

Each fish is its own... Just like some people love living in big city's where others love the open country.
I had mine in a 60 with a maxijet on one side and a hang in the back filter on the other... No skimmer. He lived and THRIVED in there
If I was to listen to everyone my 90 gallon reef would have 200 lbs of rock and one chromis bc it's to small for a tang....
Here's a pic of my egg crate cage I built to hold the fish in my main tank and not have to stress it out over another transfer
It's holding my gem tang just fine. Ad if anything looks wrong its easy to pull him out

I have 3 Achilles & 2 powder blues in a 280 all do great! I will move them to my 500 with in a year or so! Most are slow to eating! But all of mine eat flakes, pellets, brine, myliss and lots of nori! They all eat off of the same clip with a 6inch black longnose tang! I do soak food in garlic & selcon

Thank you! My 200 gallon is still in the process of being set up. I'm waiting on the sump to be finished, plumbing completed and then cycled. I just like to do a lot of research before I jump into anything
!I have awhile before I will purchase one but I will definitely contact Brett at nicewrasse!

Wow that's a lot of beautiful fish in one tank! How long have you had the Achilles? Did you introduce the powder blue and achilles at the same time?

Thanks the gem tangs eating but I think he wants out. He gave himself a little starch on his head trying to fit I between the holes.
I'm just super afraid my yellow will pick on him or my desjardini will...
My 90 is so packed I don't know how I will catch him...
This fish is an heart attack waiting to happen. I am always checking on him.
I could put him in my 60 with the sea horse and zoas but that tank runs on the low side of temp. 76 norm and 78 is the hottest it gets....
Hopefully you do not stress out this much with ur fish, I don't think I can handle this to much longer :help:

I feel that way about my entire reef XD Heart attack waiting to happen.
I suggest moving one or both tangs to the sump for a couple weeks, then turning all three loose at the same time (or letting the gem establish first.)

Do you know how to make a fish trap with a two liter bottle, it's easy and works really well on tangs. You will probably have to catch the two dominant ones now, which will be easy. Then after the gem gets adjusted you can catch him and find a new home or just let him be or whatever. But I'd definitely get the other two fish out of their ASAP, don't want them killing a unicorn fish.
