From the picture it appears they're covered in algae or something, have you tried blasting it off with a turkey baster and seeing if they open up after that. If the algae is bothering them they may not open.

that looks mostly like green star polyps, with some zoas mixed in. star polyps can take a few days to settle in and open. The zoas look like they are starting to settle in. give it some time and make sure they arent being blasted with flow.

Thank you! I will give them a quick cleaning with the turkey blaster They are in a medium flow area but I can turn it down for a few days if needed...

I thought the same thing that it looks like GSP. What lighting are you running?

We should also tell you, if that is indeed G.S.P, isolate that rock to the sand bed on its own "island". Those will eventually spread and become a major nuisance. The mat encrust onto rocks making them almost impossible to remove.
Yes when I saw that someone said gsp my heart sank. It's on the sand bed now and illI move it further from everything else. I don't want it taking over my tank!

I can take a different picture if you think it'll help identify what it is, let me know what you need. I don't know much about zoas or GSP, just decided to start getting into Zoas after a few years of just doing SPS and leathers.

So do still think it's gsp? I will look into doing a strong peroxide dip, doing the research now

I dont think this is GSP either, GSP at that size will have more out of rock protruding structures, but not super confident. I think its covered with green slime algae. If so (you can check that be scrubbing a little... cyano like thick mat should come off), turkey baster is not the right tool, in my humble opinion, the velocity of water gush you need to get that thing out can damage gsp (not that you should worry a lot, since they grow crazy), but a softer tooth brush is very effective, you can apply it gently, and that stuff comes out nicely.. You dont have to be very thorough, once most of its gone and polyp has a fair chance to openup, the colony tend to bounce back pretty easily.

If you take an old toothbrush to them to clean them off. Obviously do not scrub the daylights out of them but it will certainly help. I have done it to mine a few times. Zoa’s as well. They do not like being cover in any kind of algae. They will not open. And I agree looks like GSP - Zoa mix.

I bet all zoas,,if I had to guess it would be green crossettes morph..just do normal Peroxide dip ,,dont worry about making it strong for say..

Wow that was really bad. It's supposed to say that's a photo after an hour or so of light this morning. I did the dip last night. It looks about the same now after 3 hours of light

did anything came off when you use the toothbrush ?

Yes the water came out dirty but nothing noticeably different overall appearance wise.
