Would the ideal be 30 days, and only if the fish are not eating do the 2 week option?
There are pros & cons to both methods. Copper is a poison and immunosuppressant, so the longer the fish is in it the greater the likelihood complications could arise. A secondary bacterial infection developing being the most obvious danger.
The way I see it the 14 day treatment method has two big downsides:
- Need for a second QT/HT at least 10 feet away from the treatment tank.
- No margin for error. You would need to test your Cu level each & every day to ensure it remains therapeutic. If it inches down even slightly, all bets are off.
All you can do is offer the different foods, it's up to him to eat it. Have you tried some live foods? Or maybe you could put a small rock that has algae growing on it in there for him to pick on. You just have to be careful that wherever that rock comes from it doesn't introduce new parasites to the QT. Technically you shouldn't have to worry about it since the copper should kill any ick or velvet that might come off of it. It's worth a shot anyway. How long has he been in copper by now? If it's been two weeks, you could transfer him into a sterile QT without copper, see if he starts eating after that.
