Looks neat. Great price! I'm glad we got some cheaper quality controllers available now....I thought the standard ApexEL, but a lot of people can't afford the base model.

So this just comes with the brain box, probes and water level switches, no EB832?

Well crud. Here I was all gun-ho about building my own reef-pi controller, but this now makes a compelling argument for buying a controller.

Edit: after looking at the pricing of the other apex packages, how can the Apex controller unit alone be $399 but this BRS edition is only $249? Whats the difference here?

Here's the difference.

so if i have an apex classic i can buy this for $250 so i can get the brain in order to get the trident if i wanted to? the base unit sells for $400. i must be missing something.

Yes you can run the trident with this as it has the 1-Link port to connect it. This is basically the EL without the Energy Bar. You can use your other power bars from your old apex with this, you just won't have power monitoring.

The pic you are showing is not the EL though, it does not have the 0-10v inputs. I had to buy an additional module to get those inputs.

Correct, the EL version is not the one they are asking about.

So its the normal EL, but price adjusted to account for them taking out the Energy bar, and throw in a couple float switches for free? Yawn

I dunno. My return pump is WiFi. My powerheads are WiFi. My lights are WiFi. Heck, I’m pretty sure my skimmer has WiFi control if I set that up. I think controllable outlets are less neccesary than they used to be, hence the monitoring version. Power outage, pH (Alk overdose?), temperature monitoring, and then the float can indicate either a return pump failure, ATO failure, etc. And if you want some outlets, you can always get the less expensive EB4 or EB8.

Yeah hehe they did say this is a trial run to see if it is popular. But for someone looking for a controller to monitor the basics I think its a good idea and gets you into the game if you can't afford to drop $500. You can always get the EB832 later.

I think you mean aquabus. Head units don't have 1-link ports.

Float mounting bar is nice though …. I wonder if it comes in orange?
