Is the WiFi gaming adapter necessary for the apex classic to operate on WiFi. I bought it new followed the setup directions and connected to hardline for initial setup then mounted to the aquarium now my operating system on my phone says not connected? Any help would greatly be appreciated

Correct, the Apex Classic needs a WIFI gaming adapter in order to connect to a wireless network.

No, if you're hardwired, you just need to link it to fusion.

Sorry it's been a while (kind of like a set & forget kind of thing), but are you able to see it on your network? Otherwise, just getting it to connect to fusion (need token) is the end step.

It does not have to be a gaming adapter if you want wireless. A $20 wireless bridge will work.

If you can connect via hardwire that is best and you can plug straight into the Apex unit.

Yeah I know I can connect it via hardwire that’s how I set it up to fusion. Really don’t have a way to keep it wired directly to my router without having the ether net cord strung across my living room floor. So I’ll bring going to Best Buy today and getting the wireless bridge thanks all for the help.

The reason I made the comment is because the directions stated a specific router that was $160 and I knew that was not necessary. Good luck and have fun...

I'd use a Powerline adaptor and hardwire it into your wall power socket. Much more reliable and will allow you to perform firmware updates without issue.

Ok so I got the net gear WiFi extender and hard wired the apex unit to it. I am getting signal to the device but not to the controller.

That is all fine and dandy for daily use, but just plug it in directly for firmware updates. Sorry I'm no help with the WiFi extender.

Is the adapter configured properly? If you link a laptop to it's network, do you have internet?

I had to open ports in my router to allow access. I set the IP as static and set the port to a high number (out of the dhcp range).

I would look on amazon youll save a lot of money
my brother uses one and so far working perfect and yes make sure you never update via wifi

How do I open ports in my router? And are u talking about setting the port in the apex net setting to a high number on the IP address?

Please do not do this or advise anyone to do so. You do not need nor ever should expose your Apex interface to the internet with port forwarding as suggested.

I've already posted in several places about the danger of doing this and found 700+ controllers exposed on the internet.

The only configuration you would need to do on your router is if you had a rule that blocks all outbound connections (which I doubt).

How about putting a laptop on the wifi extender and checking you have internet access to ensure that's working?

I have been researching and going to try to setup the controller via the WiFi extension with Ethernet cord. Looked up on Neptune website so wish me luck

I had a spare Apple airport express sitting around which I connected to the Apex Classic.
It was a true plug and play experience, smooth sailing for the last 4 years, no issues at all.

If I can’t get this system up I will definitely try it thank u

Airport express is a bit expensive than other $20 options on Amazon.
If frustration had a dollar value, the cheaper options would turn out way more expensive!!

Maybe this is a dumb question but did you set up the WiFi extender first? I don't have the same model you purchased but I first had to plug it in near the wireless router and run a setup wizard on my laptop to name it and connect it to the router with the security and password. Once it was setup and named I could move it to the room with the Apex and connect it. The other thing I had to do a time or two is check the Apex Display to see if it has Fusion communication. I don't remember if I had to restart it or relink the Apex but it'll say No Comm if it's not connected to Fusion in the Net Setup menu.
