Aptasia eating filefish

A little while after you take the Filefish out of your tank the aiptasia will come back. IME the Filefish won't bother any corals until all the aiptasia are gone and then it will pick at all of them.

My filefish stayed in the back corner all day yesterday , but when I feed the tank some vitamin enriched frozen mysis it did come out alittle to eat the mysis shrimp. It actually seemed alittle peppy-er after that. But it's only been one full day and I don't think it has touch any aptasia yet. But atleast I know it won't starve. It reminds me of a small flounder - with the coloring.

It takes them a few days to get bold in it's new tank. You might not ever see it eat any aiptasia. Probably just notice that there aren't any aiptasia any more.

You make a good point here Mike , about the aiptasia coming back. I think that is why keith and I will put the fish in the MTRC club share pool so that when they do come back we can borrow our fish back and not have to go out and buy another one for $34.99 .

I need file fish whenever it's available, I'd purchase or borrow, I've got an anemone emergency. Lol. Hit me up whenever it's available.

I shouldnt need it for much longer. I say 75% of infestation is gone. Maybe a week or two and its going to the next person or keith.

Saratj1 since you and Gregg is so close to you you can pick it up from him as long as you are a club member there is no charge but if the fish dies you will need to replace it or send me the money to replace it

Ok, thanks I am a member, maybe not a very active one lol, I think I need to pay my dues soon though.

bad news my filefish died on day 2 in my tank , woke up and it was dead. Though the day before it was finally swimming to other areas of the tank. However, it didn't touch the aptasia and I really did see it eat that day. Guess mine fish was a weak fish from the LFS.

Got the file fish in my sump, i had a couple aptasia left but it decided to start to nip at my acans. Didnt bother them until today so its time for it to eat aptasia in somebody elses tank. I PMed Sara on getting the fish to her.

Thanks Keith for letting me borrow this fish, it did a amazing job!

Greg

Hey , I got the file fish from Greg, he's acclimated and was out and about in the tank this morning looking good. I hope he brought his appetite.
It was nice meeting you Greg and I enjoyed talking fish stuff with you for a little bit.
Also and this may not be the place for it, but while I was talking it came up, but I have a laser that I would like to make the club laser to fry little undesirables in our tanks. The only thing is that it's dangerous like a loaded BB gun, but is a neat little tool for someone who has a couple sessile pest critters that are hard to get to.
If anyone would like to borrow my laser pm me. It's 1.5w and properly focused will set most anything alight in seconds.
And make anemones snap crackle and pop through a foot of water.

Hope the file fish does well for you.

Thanks

Doing well , not hiding any at all now, starting to notice a reduction in anemones, but still a ways to go. Here's a pic before the lights came on this morning.
