Aptasia OMG Aptasia

I just joined R2R and received a warm welcome; so now for the reason I joined. The aptasia debate, how best manage and rid this pesky stuff. I have read all sorts of advice, File Fish, there go the corals. CBB, pretty fish but another iffy selection and will also nip at corals. Berghia, which I have put 4 of them in the tank but my 6 line probably made lunch of them. Haven't seen them since I put them in but have not looked at night with a flashlight. They are only about 1/4" long so doubt I would anyway. Peppermint shrimp sounds like maybe the best answer but I am having a hard time finding them except Live Aquaria but shipping is a much as the stock.

I have a 45 gallon tank, the rock is finally getting a nice coating of coralline algae so the tank is very stable.
Any advice would most helpful, this aptasia grows and moves like weeds on the front lawn so I want to get as early as I can...

Look at divers den on liveaquaria, usually can get a bonded pair of peppermint and then add a couple corals so you get free shipping!

I got my peppermint shrimp at my lfs added three to my tank and worked like a charm. Also you could pull wrasse and try the Berghia again

Local LFS did not have any in stock with no eta either.

Sorry for your troubles. I had excellent results with nudis from saltyunderground.com. They eliminated all aiptasia within 2 months. My best advice here would be...WATCH YOUR WRASSE!

How many did you buy and what size tank did you add them to?

I haven't seen a single aiptasia since adding a filefish a month ago. However, he also ate all my rock flower nems. But he hasn't bothered any other corals.

Get you some F aiptasia from BRS. Stuff works great. I haven't seen a single aiptasia after using it. It smothers them so they can't release little offsprings.

I used Aiptasia Rx, I believe it was called. Stuff from Blue something. Basically the same as aiptasia x, concentrated kalkwasser I was told.
Kills aiptasia pretty easily, not harmful to the tank.

Slow down on your fish feeding. Then trade the 6-line for pair of Peppermint shrimp.

Persistence is the best medicine. Keep killing them individually with kalkwasser or F-Aiptasia, while you add some predator (nudis, CBB, peppermints, filefish.)

I’ve been thru a terrible outbreak that went on for months, while waiting for a file fish, and later $1600 of nudis.
Only after committing to kill every one I could see, did I get a handle of the situation. My CBB has kept me Aiptasia free for 1.5 years now.

I use a Multi Approach. Try getting Your Population Down by Scrubbing them off of Your Rocks. (Preferably out of The Aquarium) I use a bucket. I always have at least 2 Peppermint Shrimp. Then I will add Some Berghia Nudibranchs. They just don't like Strong Flow. You gotta turn down The Powerheads. & Wrasses are a No No If you have an SPS Dominant tank then really turn down the Powerheads at night. I've had bad luck with filefish.

I've been using that stuff for months...it has not worked for me. It'll smother the little ones but the big aiptasia always come right back.

F-Aiptasia gets my vote!!

I tried many things and I am really surprised at how effective this was. The interesting part to me was how on contact, the aiptasia sort of froze, got coated with the stuff, and then was locked in.

The only down side to me is that you do need to find them all to completely eradicate them.

I hate them. Will not take a chance of ever adding them again. Tried slot of things. Peppermint shrimp worked for me. Little stinks also ate my tube worms. Even put one in the sump. CBB worked in my larger tank. Now I keep them from coming back into the tank.

How many did you buy and what size tank did you add them to?

I bought 3 of them. They had different ones. I bought the “high flow nudis” for a 40 gallon with about 20 aiptasia that I could see.
