AquaDom has exploded...

To blame this on the cold weather makes no sense.

First off it inside a hotel, which is heated. Secondly it's been there for 20 years. So in the last 20 years it's never been that cold before?

Highly unlikely it was because it was cold outside.

I figure if they said because of the cold.. that it means they were not heating the lobby or whatever because of the energy crisis.

Fixed that for you

That is the only way you could maybe blame the cold?
That doesn't make sense either..... You can't afford to heat the atrium of a hotel(or don't have the resources), but you can afford the resources it would take to heat the tank? Surly the resources to heat the tank would be way more then to heat the hotel(specially if your not heating the hotel).

Large tanks like these do not rely on electricity to heat them. Most would be using the same resources(natural gas, propane, fuel oil, whatever) as it would take to heat the hotel.

I just find that highly unlikely.

It probably cost more to replace it than to heat the space, but that is also probably insurance money replacing it and or paying off the loss.

The tank is thick acrylic I assume and therefore a good insulator. I run 1/2 inch acrylic on my cold water reef for this reason. The chiller hardly runs to keep it 55 in a heated house.

You can’t turn the heat off and keep the fish alive but you could turn the heat down in the lobby and tell people to bundle up.

I would assume it’s not because they can’t afford it but due to limited resources perhaps… trying to conserve energy. I would think places would be mandated to cut back energy use in a crisis but I don’t know. I don’t live in California :)

I am just going off IF it isn’t crap. It seems at a least plausible.
