So after going thru Tunze waste of money, reef octo hang ons not performing as they should and NO real help from Coralvue. I am looking at hang on skimmers as I dont have room for a sump and dont want the extra expense of pumps overflow etc. Had that in past, new apartment small and limited. CAN ANYONE recommend a skimmer for a 125 gallon aqueon tank, Fish only some live rock, Thanks in advance. Is this skimmer worth the chance aquatop or aqua one xyclone skimmer.?

which tunze skimmer are you using? Are you using baffles in a sump or an ato to keep water level stable? If water level isnt stable a protein skimmer wont function well regardless of the brand

for a 125 i would check out the Life Reef hang on back its probably one of the best, way step above the ones you metntioned.

or just go old school with a venturi skimmer next to or above the tank. Like and Xflo or warner marine or whatever brand you like these days.

Thats where I am leaning towards

do you keep the water stable with an ato though? it is very important for these skimmers to have constant water levels, without one (or without a sump) it will be difficult for any skimmer to perform well

YES YES and YES. I have RUN these skimmers without and THEY SKIMMED ON ANOTHER TANK< So AFter 30 years of doing This I know what I am doing, Rally Frustrated , U know the best hang ons I ever used where aquamedic skimmers from Germany no longer here available in USA to my knowledge.

Not trying to convince you to keep using it, but that’s interesting it didn’t skim at all. It is kind of a “cute” design which I’m not a fan of. Did it skim for your friend but not you?

NADA NEITHER OVERHYPED JUNK IMO

Not much help in your case, but the DOC series in sump skimmers are definitely underrated and get zero attention because BRS doesn’t carry them. The 9430 is an absolute monster. The rating system is goofy though

Are you sure They would fit the rim of 125 aqueon tank?
Just looked at the specs. Says 3/4” rim, so I guess not. I had 2 HOB 1.0 on my old 125 but it looks like they changed the mount a little. Hopefully you can find something that will work for you.

Tunze 9410 DC. The 9012 is an excellent skimmer too if you don't have a sump. 99% of Tunze complaints are user error. Did you talk to Roger at Tunze USA?

First how would you know that/ Do you have any data to support that Claim. Second spoke to roger Twice not much H elp in my situation. I have 35 years keeping reef and marine tanks so I KNOW what works and What does NOT. IMO the skimmers are overrated and overpriced, Not acrylic made. Seems like plastic for what you get for the Money, You experience might be different, Good luck
