Hi y’all, I’m new here and hoping to find some help. I’m sure this has been asked many times before but I just can’t seem to search it.

im looking to build a L1830mm x D800mm x H760mm tank... I’m thinking 12mm glass all around but wondering if I require bottom bracing/kick plates? Are they necessary or required in larger tank builds? When are they required or if they are ever required. If no how do I get away with not putting one on? thicker base?

i also want to do euro bracing on top us this possible or not worth the trouble?

thank you in advanced for any help.

Welcome to R2R. This is a great community to receive & share information/ideas. I can show you what I have done with bracing on a few large tank builds I have done.

I buy my tanks used (Craigslist, FB marketplace etc.) strip them down to glass , clean, re-seal then use aluminum angles for the bracing.

Corners and sides I use joint plates and wire. Gives a modern/industrial look, lets in 99.99% light and no cleaning.

This particular tank was purchased for $250 (210gal. 7' x 2' x 2') Adding a low iron front pane and pencil glass for reinforced seams. $300. Cleaning supplies, silicone $100. Misc. $50. Tanks this size in the US are well over 2K and take months for delivery.

Most distressing was the wife nagging to finish it and get it out of the garage and living room. o_O

Hope this gives you and others some ideas on your build and welcome to R2R.
