Arc reef pink coralline algae in a bottle

Following I dumped a bottle in about 3 to 4 weeks ago don't see anything yet

I figured the bottle would be easier than scraping snail shells or whatever. I wasn't growing it prior due to leaving the tank zero maintenance for 4 years barely fed never did one water change. . i bought the tank off someone on craigslist they broke it down helped set up and went ghost after a bit. I had no clue what i was doing i just kept topping it off when i got back into the hobby this year my sg was at like 1.010 3 damsels left rock work just all over the place. Four months ago i binge watched brs youtube vids and learned what i could [emoji14]

spent 2-3 hours doing cleaning gha with siphon into filter sock thank you for the tip [emoji4] tank looks wayy better. im starting to see dots on the back glass could it be coraline or does normal algae grow in spots too?

Hard to tell.

Keep your parameters stable by eliminating daily ALK or Ca swings. Since you’re able to grow plenty of GHA, that’s telling me your nutrients (nitrate and phosphates) and lighting is sufficient to grow coraline. Now it’s up to you to find out what your other crucial parameters are (salinity, CA, ALK, MAG) and keep those within their appropriate ranges. This will allow you to grow coraline and combat the grow of other undesirable algaes. However, when any one of these parameters falls out of range, coraline growth will decline and GHA may increase.

Finding out what your parameters are and identifying their daily consumption rates to find appropriate dosage for each is vital. Not only for coraline growth but for maintaining healthy corals as well

I just got my bottle from them. I was disappointed to realize that it was a bottle of BIO-Spira'esqe solution with a sliver of live rock in it measuring 1" x 1/8" x 1/8'

I didn't see any change in close to a month, so I went to a LFS and got 1 nice rock covered in coralline. It started popping up all over the place then, so I just wouldn't recommend it. But, thats just my opinion.

This was July 17 I dosed the pink on July 6

Then middle of Aug

Oct 8th

That’s just that powerhead. It shows up much better on the black but the rocks have pink spots all over

It seemed to take off once I had a little control over my GHA. Definitely works but it seems to be very sensitive to change and takes a few months to start to show up

Yeah after about a month I didnt see anything so I went to LFS to get a rock, didn't want to because started with all dry rock to avoid any hitchhikers. Maybe, I was too impatient or maybe it was the combination of both. And I'm sure every bottle is different. But if I had the chance to do over again id stick with the rock.

Say what you will but is has worked for me[emoji12] and I do not really see spending 17.00 on something for my reef tank as much at all. That’s like a tenth of a tenth of what I have in it so far plus they donate 15% of all profits back into Florida reef conservation. I like to think of it as a donation and I received a free gift. To each there own.

what scientific proof do you have that it worked? i’m only asking because i don’t think a lot of applications have been studied.

Just what I have seen grow in my tank which you can see on my Picts. The “live rock” I started with had no real coraline on just some purple rocks with that fake coraline on it. I think the problem is that it is super sensitive to changes at first. The instructions that come with it say even a 3 degrees change in temp could render the spores useless. Maybe I got lucky maybe it’s BS and my coraline came from somewhere else I don’t really know. I think it’s worth a shot, read up on the company they are a great group of people trying to conserve and rebuild reefs and care for ocean life. That is almost worth it for me to spend 17.00. I used a bottle of the purple stuff on my tank on September 27th. All it did was tank my alkalinity, as far as I can tell. I'm 21 days in and I don't have a speck of purple that didn't already exist on the live rock that I have. Not sure how long it is supposed to take, but I guess the conditions weren't right in my tank for it to work. Or it just hasn't been long enough.

I bought a bottle of the Purple Helix and added it on September 8th. I had zero coralline, and my tank was only 2 months old at the time. It says in the instructions it can take 6-8 weeks before you see any growth. It also talks about maintaining specific parameters for your water. I didn't care about the cost, they are using part of it for reef restoration. Here is a pic of one of my rocks today (6 weeks after using). Even my snails have it on them now.

I actually want their live rock when they eventually start selling it again in 2019.

I used the product, but it hasn’t done that much - but when I got an Alk tester my Alk was very low (6s) so that is likely the culprit

People say their live rock is great. Unfortunately, they took a big hit from the hurricane, and thier reef got pretty much wiped out. Hopefully, they can start selling again in 2019. It would be nice if they could maybe post an update on how things are coming along down there.

Hey everyone I recently got back into my tank. I’ve been reading around and wanted to try arc coralline algae in a bottle.

I was on amazon it came up in some searches when ordering fish food I ended up pre ordering the new pink bottle it was a few $ more on amazon I noticed after I went on arc website I also saw it was ready for shipping so I shot them an email with hopes they could ship it out earlier.

Tom @ arc got it shipped out the next day and offered me a refund of the difference also told me he was going to throw in a piece of rock in the bottle so I can see what the end result would be.

Got my package today. I received two bottles one pink and one purple so shout out to arc for the gift lol

The pink rock looks insane something in the tank moved it though having trouble finding it under blue lights will upload a picture tomorrow.

till this day i moved out of that tank ill go to frag plugs i glued down and rip em off the rock and fine insane amounts of bright bright pink on them. But i very rarely saw it in the tank its self.
