Are Jeabo pumps junk?

I love my rw 8,s they kick butt.
Just got 2 more for my big frag tank .
Have two in my display that been running since last April 15 months.
2 pumps for 111 bucks ain't bad.
The wave selection and remotes are pretty snappy too.

Still haven't heard what kind of maintenance these require.

Is it just cleaning the impeller from time to time?

I clean mine every few months.
One thing I've noticed is that the impeller material plastic wears down faster than other pumps and leads to flow loss, I replaced mine after about a year mainly because I got replacement s cheap.
I like em.

And?????

I agree that a lot of stuff from China is low quality, but if we start discrediting everything that is made in China than pretty much nothing in your life will be up to your standards.

I love Eheim pumps, but I have to believe that some components are sourced from Asia! I work for Audi (German made), but I am sure that the components are sourced from all over the world!
God made the world and rest are made in China.

I've had the D.C. Powerheads for over a year. One stopped working so I took it apart. Calcium carbonate clogged it. I soak them in diluted acid ever once in a while and it dissolves the gunk

We use a ton of Jeabo pumps.. the bottom line is they are a great bang for the buck but you need to have a backup on hand. We have had pumps that lasted for years with no problems... and other pumps randomly stopped working..mostly the controllers gave out or the internal thermal switch went. The only symptoms we noticed is the lights on the controller goes out. Or it shuts off and when you put it back on it runs for a few minutes and shuts back off. We never had an issue with leaking voltage/shorting out in the water. It works great if you want to use the Apex. If you turn it off/power outage it usually remembers the last setting in most instances. It is very easy to clean and comes apart easily. I use them mostly for my returns and skimmers. Also wave makers. Can't complain. We have been using them for at least 5 years. You can use any size tubing to any pump you just have to match it up to the right threads and the right reducer.. the hardware store will have all PVC pieces you need. Hope this helps.

Best post yet!! Thanks.

What size PVC do you use? It looks like 1"

I am runni g a dct6000 for about 3 years with no problems.
The pump will remember the settings and auto start after a piwer outage.

Still, no one has answered my question. Does the pump ever short out in the water?

I've had 2 Sicce voyagers and one syncra silent short out in my tank, the latter pump (in the sump) killed my tank!

I run 2 RW-20's in the DT, one stopped working and was replaced with a spare I always keep, but it did not kill anything. In my experience, it did not short out, but rather the controller gave up.

Every single pump in my tank is a jebao. 4 wave makers, 3 circulation pumps, skimmer pump and return pump. In 4 years of using these pumps the only thing I've had an issue with is a controller on my skimmer pump. I bought the skimmer used from a reefer in my local club and the controller looked like it had gotten wet at some point and it started shutting off periodically. I replaced the controller several months ago for $40 (amazon) and everything is fine now.

I even have a third party controller adapter that lets me control my wave makers via my apex, which is awesome.

I definitely recommend these pumps. They last, they're super quiet and parts are easily obtained in the event something goes wrong.

Ran one for 2 years and have another running in another tank for 3 years now. Not a problem yet

What is the third party controller? I wouldn't mind using my Apex as opposed to the factory controller that may be suspect

Does it support the dcs pump? I read the Apex controller didn't

I've had two jeabo wave makers, a rw-8 and a pp-15. I had the rw-8 a little over a year with no issues, so I picked up the pp-15. A little after a year it stopped.

It was just not spinning. Took it apart & cleaned it, but nothing. About a month later I plugged it in and it started running. Put it back in, but about a month later it was off again. This time the controller had 1 light on & blinking. I switched controllers & same thing. I tried it a week later, but no luck.

So I'm 50/50 with them. But neither harmed anything.

@jasonrusso - this is the device I use. I have had it since December and haven't had a single problem. It is connected to my 2016 apex via a regular Ethernet cable to the control port. It runs 2 wp25 wave pumps.

The 2 wp10 pumps I have are on another controller that I used before I got the apex. It is called a JBWave. Been using it for about 3 years now.

Junk. I have purchased 3 at the same time. One died another after 6 months lost 50% of it's power(I gave it a vinegar bath still no good) last one is still ok. #neveragin

I'm willing to bet that if you ask this question about any brand of pump or equipment you're going to get about the same number of good experiences to bad ones. No brand at any price point is exempt from that rule in my experience.

For the dollar the powerheads are a good value. None of them come without minor issues and often require minor tinkering- especially after a power cycle. The dosing pumps are solid. I'm batting 0.5 with the DC returns. The gyres are total garbage from my experience. If you're going to get something then buy from Reefbreeders. Logan will warranty broken items. I'm not sure you'll get that from other dealers.

Lame my pp8 just went out today 6,month use and my rw15 only lasted me 13 months on off event as if it's trying to start but won't kick over even after a vinegar bath. My tunze last past all the jebao and still working for 3-4 years

I just purchased a DCP-5000 and I'd say the GPH is spot on assuming my Tunze silence was accurate in its GPH claims. I run the DCP at 80% to get the flow the Tunze pushed at max (as judged by my gate valved drain). It runs at 28 watts vs 44 watts for the Tunze. It's also completely silent and was one fourth the cost of a Varios with better control. It also came with PVC slip and Barb fittings in every size you could need. So far I'm very pleased. I've also run eheim returns and while I agree they're bullet proof, they're power hogs which means heat. If you're committed to proven reliability and support (and AC) check out the Tunze Silence line. They're modified Sicce pumps with Tunze support.

Bought a DC4000. Loud whinny noise. Some said it would go away with time. Nope and by then too late to return to Amazon. No way I could use that noisy pump in my tank in my living room. So I use it out in the garage on my mixing station. Still loud. But working. Bought a VarioS-2 Controllable DC Pump (792 GPH) - Reef Octopus. Quiet. Smoother than Jebao unit. Money well spent. No worries about breaking down while I am away from the house. What's peace of mind worth?
I had exactly the same experience going from a Jebao to a more powerful Varios. More powerful and much much quieter.

Thats 100% true @Arringar but in the market today theres many alternatives, there is nothing wrong buying things cheaper than others, saving money I think it's a goal from everyone, but unfortunately buying the cheapest ones most of the times the post-sale service sucks. This is what happen in my personal experience with Jebao:
2)Return pumps DC4000 and DC 12000, The small one stop working right before the first year the second one same thing but A year and a half later, bought them both from the same supplier and of course I called them asking for the first one because it was not even a year still in warranty with receipt, box and everything. His answer was "in order to claim the warranty we have to send them back to China and just to do that it's more expensive than buying a new one" after hearing that and my second one stopped working don't even bother myself to call again.

After that experience I save some more money and went with Ecotech marine:
1)Vectra M1 return pump and it's been working 2 - 1/2 years flawlessly at 95% 24/7 never an issue.
2)MP-40QD's One stopped working around year and half later, technically out of warranty and with just a simple call to Ecotech and $1, yes one dollar they sent me a brand-new one in the box, Second one is rock bottom 24/7 at 85% with non-issues at all. I know it's a lot of money for only three pumps but when you receive this kind of service and quality when I paid a dollar to replace a $350 pump out of the warranty honestly I was proud to spend that kind of money. PERIOD!!!
After all of that I learned something that I think everybody knows in reefing "most of the times buying cheap is buying twice" I made a firm decision from that point on every time that I need any equipment for my tank I prefer to save a little bit more and buying something reliable, with good reviews in most important thing responsible customer service!!!!
That's my $0.02, [emoji106][emoji225][emoji886]
