Are Jeabo pumps junk?

I have used jeabo pumps since they were first introduced.

Wp40 were the 2 original pumps in my display .
strong , worked for a few years until I upgraded .
one the clamp that holds the pump broke and can’t find just a replacement .

went with the rw15 as the next pump .
it lasted about 6 months and died . The power
Supply doesn’t work !
The other I had to bump start the impeller

do not use vinegar to clean magnetic impellers !
there was a article and study with vinegar being the main reason pump failure
Current display :
I have a dc15000 for my return pump
Dc9000 for skimmer
Scp 180 cross flow on one end
Cp 150 on the other
Dc 6000 for water changes

I have had them for a few years and still working as strong as when they were new

Like i said....its all crap, one way or another.....

Its all about compromises and money. The less u have it, there will be more compromises.....

For me, if i feel that something is junk, i dont buy it only because its cheap.

But, if something is cheap, i'm willing to give it a try....

And yes, jebao evolved from "jebao by china" to "ati".... So, i ask again, is it crap?

Cheaper versions of products that don't last as long as other more expensive brands of the same type of product is not limited to the reefing hobby by any means.

Did I say it was?

Few hobbies are under a larger microscope than ours is. A few bad actors can get us shut down in an instant

At least quote your entire post, the irresponsible comment in particular is clearly relevant I the point I was making.

It's a lottery. They've always been junk in some way.

I prefer to support the companies that support the hobby and actually innovate products. Stealing designs and pumping them out for cheap is not innovation.

Buying 2 because the first might be junk is ludicrous. We don't need more electronic waste filling our landfills. This hobby is one crazy decision away from being shut down. We, as hobbyists, don't need to fuel the fire by being irresponsible.

The implication if your post was that we are being immoral by buying the cheaper versions that don't last as long. My point is, that happens with everything we purchase and wealth should not be tied to morality whatsoever.

A pump is a pump... $200 pump or a $800 pump, any of them could take a crap at any given moment... have a backup! Much easier to have 2x $200 pumps than 2x $800 pumps. When ya have 2 pumps it is also easier on maintenence as you can just swamp them out when it's time for cleaning. I bought 3 Jaebos dc12000s and all 3 were cheaper than 1 varios8.

You can buy a used Tunze for cheaper than Jebao stuff if you watch for it.

Because old and used tunze is still better than brand new with waranty jebao.....

I dont buy used stuf.... Amen!

To paraphrase a little - what is the best car in the world? A new one.... ;)

A new one is better only because it has a warranty .
But brand new cars still break , they still Burn

Can’t say they don’t innovate at all. Jabeo SLW and MLW series pumps are ‘inspired’ but AI Nero pumps. AI Nero pump design left big holes on the intake side that killed quite a few fish in hobbyist tanks. Jabeo improved their design to a weir-like pattern that is a lot closer to each other, hence preventing fish from being sucked in.

I had to free a filefish stuck on the outside of the intake side a couple of times, but it never got sucked in. The fish was rehomed as it became an ‘acropora’ eating filefish.

Sad truth in life is that everything breaks and nothing is forewer...

I have been using two scp-150 gyres and a dcp-10000 for coming up on 3 years and I have never had an issue with any of them.
I don't regret buying any of my jebao pumps and if looking for a new pump/powerhead I would still considering getting jebao.

The biggest issue with jeabo .
they are essentially stealing patterns of higher end such as eco tech , and building the exact same thing for a fraction of the cost .
stepping on toes , cutting throats which ever way you want to word it .

Taking jobs and money from local businesses
Which is the biggest issue with supporting them !

Excuse me.....

Wich local businesses?

@Rmckoy
I agree with most of what you are saying. I always prefer locally made products, but how many of the other brands make their pumps in the United States or, for that matter, anywhere outside China?

Another argument against Jabeo is that they steal designs/do not innovate enough. I am fairly new to the hobby and have no idea what happened in 2017. The current Jabeo pumps seem to have as much innovation as any other brand's pump. Save for Ecotech; most other pumps are very similar.

All these products are made not in USA lol

I have 4 OW-10's working for 2+ years now, I clean them quarterly in a white vinegar bath. I have a DCP-6000 running 24/7 in my mixing station which has run external and requires a little more maintenance but still runs great. When I get my 120 setup I will definitely start with ow-25's and a DCP pump. I think they're very reliable for the price you pay.

Very easy to have backups of them as well.

Yea and Japan did the same thing after ww2.
Your cell phone is made in China. If it was made in the US it would be $5K.
Same reason mp's cost so much.
I am not a China fan and the US needs to understand what China is doing world wide before its to late.
Many companies rebrand the Jeabos pumps for their products.
These threads make me laugh. Use what you want. Many cant afford $300+ pumps but you can get 4 Jeabos for that.
I run them and im a Tunze guy.
My first Jeabo controller died yesterday.
All in all I am amazed they are as good as they are.

Ive only used jebao the last 7 years or so and havent had a problem with them.
Lets talk about what i have had a problem with.
My 400 dollar mp 40 with exposed magnets that poisoned my tank, lets talk about that overpriced piece of garbage.
They can keep their lights too, for a 900 dollar light youd think they would grow coral good but they dont, a sb reeflight eats them for breakfast, the reeflink is a joke too.
Ill stick with the jebaos thanks.

That was exactly my point.....

Many things are simply overpriced in this hobby, and can be replaced with cheaper alternatives, without any sacrifice in performancs, growth etc...
