Are the "dollar per gallon" tanks lower quality?

Was considering grabbing and setting up a 40 breeder whenever the next dollar per gallon sale is at petco. Are these tanks made more cheaply for the sale? Don't want to save a few bucks just to have a seam blow in a month

All Petco tanks are low quality IMO, I bought a 5 gallon for quarantine and it started leaking, bought another and it started leaking.

I have two 20 Gallons and a 40 Gallon breeder...........All are fine ! No problems. I have had them for at least three years.

maybe my petco just sucks, if you want to get the tank you should get it i only have bad experiences from petco so i can't chime in

I have 2 10g and one 40g breeder from Petco at. $ per gallon sale and all just fine, no leaks.

I have two 20g longs and a 10g for quarantine tanks I picked up during their last sale... no problems with them so far. Look them over real closely for scratches, though... they like to stack tanks inside each other!

I think the 40's are no longer included in the sale, at least locally it was only tanks up to 29g

Petco used to carry aqueon brand tanks which had thicker glass then the tetra tanks they carry now. I wouldn't buy any tanks from petco unless I was using the tank for a sump. Tetra tanks seem to be very cheaply made IMO.

I agree with you. Tetra tank looks cheap made or lower quality glass.

The petcos around me use AGA (aqueon) tanks. I've used them on my 55g and my 75g without issue. They come with thinner glass than id like, and the silicone bead is large and unsightly. If you dont mind the black rims and these other issues then its a fine tank.

I'm currently setting up my 75g, just drilled it for a synergy overflow, custom sump. I put a canopy on and my stand hides the bottom black rim so it looks really clean.

If you want a more open style id recommend getting a deep blue tank, rimless with a built in overflow, hang a pendant over it and its a really nice open tank

It depends upon the tank. If it's a Perfecto, then it's basically a Marineland tank. They're produced by the same arm of the same parent company (United Pet Group, which is owned by Spectrum Brands). If it's an Aqueon, then it's basically an AGA (All-Glass Aquarium) tank. They're also produced by the same arm of the same parent company (Central Aquatics of Central Garden and Pet).

In general, most glass aquariums are fairly simple. Silicone some glass together and put a rim on it. That's not saying you can't mess it up, but I wouldn't look at a Dollar-Per-Gallon tank as defective simply because it cost a dollar per gallon.

I have 2 - 40s and no leaks in either. One is my sump the other was my rescue tank for 5 months

For those who are in the NYC are you can walk into Petland and they will price match. Advantages: You get Aqueon tank which IMO is much better at actually lower cost.

Petco charges taxes on pre-sale amount; Petland charges taxes on the sale amount.

I did that few years back and picked up 7 40B tanks from Petland. They are all still in service!

Short answer... yes. But... Petco sells a _lot_ of aquariums. If the bulk of them couldn't hold water, they'd have an ongoing support nightmare. Don't bang them around, be cautious around the silicone seals, and be real, real careful drilling them, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I have an Aqueon 55g tank that I use as a sump. So far, so good.

Both my first tank, and now my second tank are 40 breeders from the sale, one tank has been up and running for over two and a half years with not a single issue, I suspect the new tank will be the same

Same Aqueon tanks sold everywhere. Only issue is the quality has gone down some since it was AGA but way better than Marineland which I would never buy.

Really!?! If that’s the case and I ever saw that on my receipt, they’d have serious complaint an their hands. As far as I know, one cannot collect tax on a pre sale amount. Taxes should only be collected on revenue received.

This is the case but everything above 29 gallons is half off so the 40 breeders are ~50 bucks

Do all petlands do this? I'm in Florida but I have a pet land relatively close to me.
