Are these clowns for real?

I know they are Tal's. We're friends. In fact, if you look at the "about me" section on my website, I personally thank Tal for his advice.

But back to the Panadas/Racoons. It's funny that you say the Panadas have less orange, because they clearly don't. I see orange on almost every single fin in the top down picture of Tal's pandas, including the anal fin. The Racoon I posted has less orange, but that's probably due to age. I can tell that his Panads are a few months behind the Racoon.

The Panda/Racoon is a common morph that I get from my Picassos and is evidently showing up in Tal's Picassos as well. The fish has a black mask, like a panda or racoon.

I'm going to post pictures of 2 of my platinums from the same batch. These both hatched on June 24, 2011 so you get an idea of the age.

The first one lacks the face mask. No rings around the eyes, no color on the nose.

This is the picture I posted earlier. Again, exact same spawn. But this fish has the mask (and less orange than the younger Panda).

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but we ARE talking about the exact same morph. In a few months Tal's fish will probably darken up a bit and match the coloration on mine. It's not a unique morph.

I mentioned Doni because most people who are breeding her fish are probably getting the same variation and don't even realize it!
BTW jason thats a very nice fish, nice body and face dont see any deformities .. great work!!

I will see if he wants his info released. These are the only two he had, these are not common and he dosent know if or when he will ever have more? Since they are from the same parents, we will split the pair to spread the genes. If we end up with two from the split up pairs, that show the same traits, we will likely pair those offspring to try and duplicate the strain of the Pico Panda Platinum clowns.....that is at least 3-4 years away though?? Due to our stance on inbreeding, we cant justify letting these two stay together.

I tried to buy that pair but I guess you are luckier :) To me what makes them special is not the black outlines, but the 1/3 black body near the tail, almost a greyish, and then 2/3 head and body white on one of the two in that pair. I have a platinum that has the same 1/3 tail black, which is very rare, I've only seen two like it, yours and mine. They are a match made in heaven, just that one is in your tank and one in my tank...

I had a few babies that looked the same way with the grey on the back end of them and I culled them because I thought something was wrong with them. LOL. I will let you know if I come across anymore and contact you to see if you are still interested in getting them.

Thank you for the clear explanation of the trait. Tal definitely has nice fish and so do you. I get the same morphs from my pair and sell them as platiniums. They are nice but to me no different than the rest.

Just watched the video and both show no deformity
The picture does not do it justice

The one on the left looked like it had flared gills in the pic but not the video

I have to say that R2R has the best clownfish suppliers and breeders in the world!

I hope you guys will really share your experience with the masses here. Remember our breeding forum. :D

6 months later...

As promised I wanted to update everyone on the availability of Racoons from Clownfish Sushi. I collected a batch of Picasso offspring back in March (that was a miracle in itself since I manually collected after St. Patrick's Day activities). Early on a few offspring showed potential but after six months of culling and growout only five platinums are fit for sale and none of them have the distinct characteristics many of you were hoping for.

The good news is that after a move this summer our Picassos are back to regular spawning and I will begin collecting again as early as this month.

Hopefully I'll have some good news in time for Spring!

I saw one like that on alpha corals pic they posted in the designer clown thread, though I think it was a platinum and didnt have the dark face but had the dark tail

so sorry to hear that non has the Raccoon patterns but I'm glad that your Picasso's are spawning again. hope you get some Raccoon Platinum clowns. good luck.

I was wondering what you do for euthanizing your culls? would be be acceptable to use as Live food for some predatory fish?

If I had room for one more tank, there would be a lionfish in it. That's all I'm saying! ; )

+1000... I totally agree that that's the most humane way to cull. it happens in the ocean naturally. Jason, I like your ethics of culling.

I know it's a touchy subject, plus people ways imagin the bulk guppies or gold fish when they think live food. I personaly would feed them off to other fish myself, I know guppy breeders usually also have cichlids. but on that note, a frog fish would only need a 15-20 gallon tank... If you plumb it in to your system even better. Don't need lions when you can watch a "so ***** it's cute" wiggle it's little lure around.
Oh, I read that the pure white platinums show up now and the ; I know theyre perculas, but wouldn't make/midnight clown collectors like those?
